Fans of New Contemporary and Urban Art will be delighted to hear that the STROKE Urban Art Fair is moving from Munich to Berlin for its third edition this coming October. Not only the move from Munich to Berlin - the melting pot for urban and street art - but also the move from spring to fall makes a lot of sense to us because there will be a lot of art fairs and exhibitions taking place to that time during the Kunstherbst.
The venue will be The Station at Gleisdreieck that is also home to the Premium trade show during Fashion Week. We are particularily looking forward to their special exhibition When Bloggers become Artists where 10 bloggers were invited to create a piece of art that will be printed by Whitewall and exhibited at the fair. Participating blogs are LesMads, Amy&Pink, Ignant, Artschoolvets, Styleclicker, Uberding, Eve Without Adam, Whudat, Looky Looky and Suz is submitting something for iHeartBerlin.de.
After the jump you’l find a recap of the last STROKE.ARTFAIR as well as details for the next one.

On Saturday we went to a beautiful picnic on the peninsula Alt Stralau. There we got ourselves acquainted with the new Lands’ End Canvas collection. We could even take two pieces from the collection in exchange for old stuff and mispurchases. I myself have never been so far to the peninsula Altstralau and can recommend the place for beautiful shore walks and a visit to the park. For the more romantic boys and girls there are also small rowing boats for hire. More photographic impressions, information on how to reach the peninsula and how you can win pieces of the canvas collection after the jump.

I’ve been living in Berlin now for 10 years. Oh my, has my life been different before this city. I grew up in the East of Germany at the Baltic Sea, for the most part in a concrete ghetto in one of those pre-wall “Neubaublock” high rises. Back then the cities were quite children unfriendly with only few playgrounds. And those had practically no appeal as they were built from cold iron on concrete grounds mostly trimmed for athletic kids. No wonder we had to extend our adventures into the bushes around the houses and into the dark basement labyrinths of the neighborhood. We already had computer games back then, but there was no internet, no cell phones and no social media networks back then. A trip into nature was one excitement to look forward to.
It still is like that today in a way. The other week my good friend Chris and I went for a boat trip and jumped into a lake for the first time this year. So many childhood memories flashed back in that moment. Nature is too rare between night work, parties and fashion weeks.
On his blog Analoge Jugend Chris is taking a look back at the last generation of kids growing up without social media, digital cameras and a desperate force of self-expression. This week you will find a lot of memories of us writers of iHeartBerlin.de there.

For quite a while now I have been longing for a creative project that is not related to a computer screen and that lets me use my hands in a way I haven’t used them in a while. As with many things one moment or one little detail can inspire you so much that your head suddenly explodes with ideas, just like I was inspired when I was watching a runway show at Madrid Fashion Week last year and saw this really cool acrylic necklace. It was the first time I actually saw a piece of jewellery made of acrylic that was not just a piece of plastic hanging on a silver ball chain but something way more unconventional und interesting then that. That was exactly the moment when I decided to create something myself.
Many sketches, night shifts, burned ends of cords and moments of dizziness from too much glue later I had put together a small collection of accessories and jewellery. I named them Carni - a term that derives from Carnivale. The main attraction of the collection is an interpretation of the harness. Instead of thick leather, studs and metal rings I used cords, strings of Swarovski beads, soft leather and silver chains that hang loosely around the body. A range of necklaces and bracelets round up the whole collection which is available now online here and in Berlin at the JB Space at Torstr. 230. After the jump you’ll find a collection video and more photos all made by the talented Katja Hentschel.

Last Thursday we successfully had our second .HBC Couture: Designer Scouts event during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin. For some reason this time it was way more stressful and hectic for us compared to our first event in January, but still worth every minute. It was a challenge to meet the standards we set last time, but I think we managed really well and I’m proud of our team and all of the designers. The reactions of the press and bloggers are getting too many by now to fully list them here, so I’ll refer you to our clippings at this point. It’s really interesting and helpful for us to read what they liked and didn’t like.
I am still a bit in a daze about everything especially since the heat is sucking all my brain energy away from me. So I leave you with the impressions of the event made (for the most part) by Katja. There is also a video by BerlinFashion.TV with the collections of Esther Perbandt and George Bezhanishvili as well as my personal favorites of all the collections.

I was very happy about the news that Milla Jovowich is the face of the new ad for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. The result that you can see here for me was more than disappointing. That’s why I wanted to post this old but still amazing photo book by Bettina Rheims. She took pictures of sexy Milla and a lot of other well known faces without any retouch and with a simple sensuality. I really really love it. More pictures after the jump.

There is a Berlin-based street artist that fights the general beauty-dogma with Disney stereotypes. For sure I like the approach of the Fight Lookism movement, even though I think they should do more art and write less texts. Normally I would say that this type of gender/political/critical movements are much more serious in Germany than in other European countries . But I think that the Fight Lookism guys seem to be very relaxed. Let’s see if they do some crazy stuff to argue with the fashionistas next week.

I hate most of the TV shows that getting really successful these days. I hated Big Brother, hated Germany’s search for a Superstar and definitely hated Germany’s Next Topmodel. Some of the reasons I am explaining here. But I am intrigued by beauty contests with a special twist. Like the Miss Landmine Election initiated by the Norwegian artist Morten Traavik. In 2009 his project was prohibited by the government of Cambodia. I think that the idea is great and that it gives people without hope something back: The feeling to be beautiful. I think that should be something that Fashion Week should also be about. Some photos of Miss Landmine after the jump.
