Iamamiwhoami returns with a Fountain

Iamamiwhoami returns with a Fountain

Last night, out of nowhere, Swedish indie electro pop act iamamiwhoami returned with a brand new song titled fountain. As with all her previous releases the track is accompanied by a beautiful music video that shows the mysterious singer dancing at the shore and on a boat with a glass of ashes. The song is pretty much along the lines of her previous album kin that I considered to be quite awesome. I’m quite curious what this new era will be like and what story she is going to tell this time. So hop over the jump to enjoy the new video.

When I got the news today that iamamiwhoami was added to the line-up of the Berlin Festival I was super excited. I love the new songs from the upcoming album kin that have all been released one by one with great music videos in the past months. The actual physical album along with a DVD with all the videos will be released on September 4th and the concert at the festival is at September 8th 2012. Enjoy my favorite song and video goods as well as a trailer for the album after the jump.

Kin – A new Iamamiwhoami Story

It has been a while since we last heard about the Swedish music project Iamamiwhoami. In 2009 and 2010 she captured us with her first appearance, the mysterious story and her amazing music videos and songs. After a little break she is back with a new story – a new era. After a short teaser in the beginning of the month was released we now have a whole new music video and a great song with the title Sever. In this new story the protagonist of the project, musician Jonna Lee, is no longer in disguise. No more big eye lashes, costumes and mysterious settings. We now see the singer only in her underwear, no make-up in an empty appartment. The only mysterious element of the new video is the big hairy flatmate… An album with the title Kin is coming out in June, 2012. The next video will be released on Febuary 29. Check out the latest video Sever after the jump.

Iamamiwhoami Returning

I was actually quite surprised when mystery music project Iamamiwhoami came back out of nowhere with a brand new video and song about two months ago. The new song ; john seemed like a departure from their old storyline of the mandrake girl. Just a few days ago another new video appeared, this time offering not a whole lot of storyline. But for me clump is by far the best song the band has produced to date. My enthusiasm for this project is all aroused again and I envy everyone who can see Iamamiwhoami live at the Way Out West festival in Göteborg next week. I wish they would come to Berlin Festival, too!!

Check out the two new songs after the jump.

Iamamiwhoami live in concert?

After the final music video of mysterious music act Iamamiwhoami was released a few months back, I was pretty sure the whole story was over. But I was wrong. Just recently new videos started popping up. Iamamiwhoami was looking for a volunteer. A German boy became the volunteer and for a few days he has been documenting his trip from his hometown over Berlin to Iam-land. What he is actually volunteering for will probably be resolved this Monday night at midnight when a live concert of the act will take place, streamed live online here. The latest videos after the jump.

A while ago I posted about a series of mysterious video clips that were promoting a yet unknown music artist. Since then a lot has happened. After six short clips the anonymous artist started to release whole music videos. Still the strange lady has not revealed herself. Unlike many people – including myself – have speculated it turned out it’s not Christina Aguilera. Especially since the first music video titled ‘b’ shows a girl completely disguised in a layer of plastic wrap playing a song that sounds nothing like the generic overproduced pop music that Aguilera has come up with recently.

Still some clever people have managed to find out who is behind it. Look after the jump to find out and see the three full music videos including a brand new one that has just been released 2 days ago. I also attached 2 great remixes that have surfaced lately.

Woodkid – The Golgen Age

Woodkid – The Golgen Age

It happens maybe once a year that I get obsessed with a musician. It was iamamiwhoami in the last two years and this year it’s Woodkid. I was already a big fan of the singles Iron and Run Boy Run that he released in 2010 and 2011 and the whole time I was thinking, Jesus, release your damn album already!! Anticipation can be a bitch and the waiting seemed to last forever! I obviously didn’t miss his two concerst here in Berlin and the one in Prague. But my obsession reached a higher level when he released his last single I Love You that included a remix of one of my favorite electronic acts Booka Shade. It’s crazy good and I love the original song as well. It seems so tacky to call a song “I Love You” – I bet most of his hipster fans wouldn’t even say that phrase in the most earth-shattering of situations – but Woodkid does it so beautifully, you can’t help but love him back. That was also what I was thinking last week at his showcase at Babylon Mitte. It was his best performance and such a great show with wonderful visuals. You should not miss his concerst, really!

Today he FINALLY released his debut album The Golden Age. I’ve been listening to my press copy for the past couple of days and I can’t get enough of it. It’s magnificent! His sound his so epic. I know he prefers the term emotional – but let’s face it, pal, you can call Sarah McLaughlin’s music emotional, your’s is EPIC! Yesterday I also received the limited book edition that came out with the album. It’s actually the most beautiful limited edition album I own now (and I own plenty…). It’s a real book that contains a story written by Katarzyna Jerzak and Woodkid himself that is basically the elaborated version of the lyrics of the album, accompanied by illustrations by Jillian Tamaki. I’ve so far read about a third of the 90 pages and think it’s really magical, especially as the story explains a lot of elements from his music videos such as the statue of the boy. If you are a fan of Woodkid, you have to buy this limited book edition of The Golden Age.

I could actually tell you a lot more about the theme of the concept album, but I sort of want you to discover it yourself as it’s something very personal and emotional and not at all what you would expect. What I would like to show you though is Woody’s new personal tumblr. On it he shares images that inspire him along with sneak peaks into his life as a musician. What I love about it is that he is so open in terms of romantic gay imagery. We all know how that is such a no-go in the music industry and I love him for not caring about these restrictions as so many other artists do.

After the jump you can enjoy some of his videos and a look into the book.

Berlin Festival 2012 Photos

The Berlin Festival and Club X-Berg last weekend was a blast and a great highlight of the Berlin Music Week. I was very proud of my animated GIF installation and the selection of party photos that I showed at the VIP area at The Berliners exhibition. And I was super happy to see Grimes, Kimbra and iamamiwhoami live, especially the later was simply amazing! I also really enjoyed new discovery Tomfoolery from Mannheim and Light Asylum where once again extraordinary, I simply love those guys! Enjoy my impression of the festival after the jump on 3 pages.
