Jazzanova crushed the Crush

Jazzanova at Crush

There must have been something in the air this week-end. On Friday we already met Daniel Brühl standing in line for our jackets at Scala. And on Saturday as we entered the Crush we ran right into the arms of Matthias Schweighöfer. Well, not literally. I can’t recall having ever seen any celebrities on a regular night out in Berlin, as if they did not even exist here. But now two of the most popular young actors in a row? What a treat. So that was already a nice start for what became a really vibrant night dancing our feet away to Jazzanova‘s set. On a funny side note, Julia from LesMads who is a (not so secret) admirer of Schweighöfer became all pale when I mentioned that the actor was in the room. Hope you got to see him, girl. More photos of the party after the jump.

100 Years of Scala Club

100 Jahre Scala Club Berlin

Last night the Scala club celebrated its 100th anniversary with A Guy Called Gerald and Peaches at the decks. Well, not so much the anniversary of the actual club that we’ve grown so fond of over the last 2 years. But that of the building that the Scala club is located in, a former movie theatre built in 1908. The invitation-only party had a strict dresscode. The wild twenties were the theme, so at least I obliged. But the cool kids did not really give a fuck and as the crowds shoved themselves past the doormen he was only mumbling disappointedly: “But you’re not really wearing a costume!” Beside myself only a few others took the dresscode seriously. One of them the friendly lady in pink underwear that gave us a little Burlesque dance/strip show – Josephine Baker style – to electronic music. More photos from last night after the banana skirt.

Do You Read Me?!

Do You Read Me?!

The German magazine market is one of the biggest in world. Just take a look at the wide range of girl magazines at a random German news stand. Of course, quantity doesn’t count. Especially the magazines for young women are extremely boring: they are telling the same stories over and over again (“Bad Girl Sex: 75 Tricks For Nights When You Want to Be Just a Little Naughtier” Yeah, right…). Good magazines are rare. Find out where to get them, after the break.

When You Are Engulfed In Flames

David Sedaris - When You Are Engulfed In Flames

I just started reading the new David Sedaris When You Are Engulfed In Flames when I heard that he will be in town this Friday for a reading of his new book at Babylon:Mitte. I have always been a fan of his quirky and witty collections of semi-autobiographic short stories and essays such as Naked and Me Talk Pretty One Day. It must have been quite a sight seeing me sitting in the subway or in the waiting room bursting out in laughter completely out of nowhere. So tomorrow night will hopefully be equally funny. Details after the page flip.

Everyday is a Weekend

Jazzanova

Jazzanova

You know, in Berlin everyday is a weekend. At least when it comes to parties. So here is our list of recommandations for the following days:

If you like to dress up 80s-style, love synthie wave music and Ewan Pearson you should head over to Scala on Thursday night for the No More Pop party. On Friday you can celebrate with the Ponyclub at Berghain Kantine, the Ponyclub is one of Friedrichshain’s oldest and coolest hair salons, by the way. Or, if you can somehow manage to get on the guestlist or get an invitation, you can celebrate 100 Years of Scala club with A Guy Called Gerald, a special guest (her name is a fruit) and many more. They have a dress code for this special occasion: Wild Twenties.

On Saturday you will have the chance to see Jazzanova at Crush. The Berlin-based band will celebrate the release of their new album Of All Things. At the .BHC there’s going to be a closing party of their current exhibition Berliner Straße. And if you are a boy who likes boys but not so much the cheasy party scene for that kind of folk you might want to try out the ZMF and get some rosy cheeks at Bouncing Boys. Flyers after the bump.

Survival Benefiz Festival at Rechenzentrum

Survival Benefiz Festival

Last weekend we went to the Survival Benefiz Festival at Rechenzentrum. Survival is an organisation that supports tribal peoples that are endangered by industrial invasion. For this benefit over 42 artists performed without fee, including Schulz Und Soehne who gave a great live performance on their drums and Philip Bader who was already busy at the decks last week at the Stil Vor Talent party. Party for a good cause! For us this was also a chance to check out the much talked about club Rechenzentrum. Being located a bit unfortunate we found this to be a great location after all. See for yourself after the bleep.

Make your own photo book

Japan Photobook by CEWE Fotobuch

Do you actually make prints of your digital photos? It’s been a bit more than a year now, that I switched over to digital. But since then I did not even once make prints of my photos. For some reason I don’t like photo albums. So when I found out that you can actually have your photos developed as a professional photobook I was intrigued. I’m currently testing one of the companies that offer this service through trnd. They’re called CEWE Fotobuch and so far it looks pretty solid what they’re bringing to the table.

I have some coupons worth a photobook for you guys. Read on to find out how to get them.

Stil Vor Talent Party Review

Red Robin

Red Robin

On Friday October 31st, the Berlin based label Stil Vor Talent celebrated its third anniversary at the Watergate. Some of the label’s most important acts performed: Philip Bader, Oliver Kolektzi, Format:B and Red Robin. As expected, there was a long cue in front of the club. But waiting was worthwhile. The party was amazing.
