Melt! Festival

Who Made Who

This year the Melt! Festival takes place for the 12th time, somewhere in the East German countryside, in a disused coal mine, a rather unusual venue for a festival. The location is Gräfenhainichen, near Dessau. Surrounded by gigantic cranes you can dance in front of the various stages and on the dancefloors. The place is called Ferropolis – the city of steel – because of the huge industrial machines standing around in the former coal mine. The festival’s camping area is located next to Gremminer See from where you can see those huge coal cranes that are illuminated by coloured lights when it gets dark and take a bath if it’s too hot.

Melt! has even been nominated for the UK festival award since lots of artist who play there stated that this was their favourite festival since its venue has such a special charm and includes a wide variety of acts from rock to electronic music.

From this year’s huge line up I can recommend you to go and see: Aphex Twin + Hecker, Bloc Party, Bonaparte, Boys Noize vs. Erol Alkan, Cold War Kids, Filthy Dukes, Goldie, Gossip, Hell, Jazzanova Live (feat. Paul Randolph), Kasabian, Klaxons, Matthew Herbert (DJ-Set), MC Justyce, MstKraft, Radio Slave, Röyksopp, Super 700, The Whitest Boy Alive, Thunderheist, WhoMadeWho and many others.

This year it takes place from the 17th to the 19th of July and tickets are available at every ticket counter starting at 55,- for one day, a two day ticket 85,- and 110,- for the whole festival, camping and parking included. Since there is no possibility of extending your 2-day ticket to 3 days you should check out the weather forecast and decide beforehand how many days you like to stay.
