Play Gameboy with the Casiokids and smell Moddis socks

Last week we could admire three Norwegian newcomer bands and yet again we are convinced North European music is florishing. Even though I have fall in love with the dark and magic sounds of the socks bearing Moddi, I had to admit that the Casiokids not only brought the audience to smile because of their Norwegian chattering but also to dance through their catchy songs. This Youtube playlist perhaps will convince you. We thank the Norwegian Export Office for the invitation and are excited to  enjoy this nordic treausures again soon. Find out about the next appearance of Moddi in Berlin after the jump.

The Experimental Week

Anna-Maria Sommer

This week is on the one hand dominated by all the events related to the 11th Club Transmediale festival for electronic and experimental music and on the other with a handful of very promising looking exhibitions opening. But before we go all artsy and experimental on your ass, we’ll kick off the week with a lot of fun at Cinéma with the It Boys… The events after the jump.

And the winner is…

Perhaps you can remember how we asked you about your favorite location in Berlin last year. Our lady luck has now choosen the winners of the tickets for the Range Rover Party and the winner of the Asos voucher (Congratulations to Luísa Lión). All the lucky ones will  get a notification email in the next few days. A total of 700 suggestions of the coolest and most creative personalities and  locations in Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Stuttgart have been collected in various blogs. From all of those 700 Range Rover has created a short list.
You can find brief profiles of the nominated venues here and vote for your favorite one with the Facebook “Like” button next to each description of the location . The location with the most votes will be part of a series of interviews and presented in a detailed portrait. With a little luck you can win an iPad by taking part in the voting and writing comments. Have Fun!

Houdini

Carni - Houdini

photos by Katja Hentschel

May I present to you: The new collection for my accessories label Carni. It’s called Houdini and it has become quite a splash of colors. But instead of going into detail about my inspiration I feel like I want to say something else at this place.

While creating this new collection there was one thing that struck me the most. And that is how many people actually went out of their way to help me. Unconditionally.  This is something I don’t take for granted. I am so happy and blessed to know these amazing people and will be forever grateful for all their support. So I would like to send out a big thank you to all of them. To my talented photographers Katja and Philipp for their wonderful photos. To my models Agnes, Anne-Claire, Devid and Thibaud for lending me their beauty (and their patience), to the lovely Vivian for making the outfits, to Pablo for sending me the materials from Paris (and making some great choices in colors), and most importantly to my sister Susanne who has helped me so much I couldn’t put it into words.

After the jump you can see the rest of the awesome campaign photos that Katja made for the photo exhibition at the Designer Scouts Showcase at Achteinhalb (still on display until Febuary 19th btw.). On another note: I have a couple of sample pieces and one-offs from my previous collection on sale at the Edged Pop-Up Shop at Torstr. 161 which is open until January 31.

Childhood Memories

While  I am waiting for someone to finally take me to the movies to see Black Swan, I found a little treasure between my old fairy tales that I will not keep a secret from you. The  children’s book Swan Lake illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman enchanted me not only with the nostalgic drawings, but also with the beautiful narrative of the former prima ballerina Margot Fonteyn. Of course I was more a fan of the black Odile than the sweet and boring Odette. If you feel for a little childhood magic as much as I do, there are all illustrations from the book after the break.

The Cunning Austrians

Volker M. Schmidt

What should we think about a group of Austrians coming to Berlin and start to steal our Christmas trees from the streets. This is quite cunty. It is also upsetting that they jump in my favorite off-set theater to make a piece and then put the whole stolen Christmas trees on stage and claim that would be a stage set. No, Ms. Axthelm-Hoffmann, this is not a set design. That is called theft of public property. Fortunately, it’s starring the fabulous Nadine Dubois, which we already were allowed to shoot in front of the Volskbühne at that time pregnant and looking like a street whore. Otherwise, the piece would be not advisable. Or maybe yes?  Christmas tree details after the jump.

Vladimir Karaleev’s show was the actual highlight of this season’s Fashion Week. At the Bebelplatz tent he showed his meanwhile tenth collection as well as a shoe collection for the first time. The audience, consisting of trendy twens and thirtysomethings, seemed more than willing to get up on a Saturday morning rushing to the show and there was definetely no disappointment. LesMads Book Release

LesMads

The release party of the new book Modestrecke written by the girls who founded Germany’s biggest fashion blog LesMads was of course an absolut must on my list of events during Berlin Fashion Week. As Saturday was my day for showrooms and pop-up shops (which there were plenty of) I only made it to the final 15 minutes of the event. But that was enough to congratulate the charming ladies Julia Knolle and Jessica Weiß, meet the lovely Schnati for the first time and purchase my signed copy of the book. Impressions of the release party after the jump.

The shop features truckloads of sale pieces from designers such as Barbara I Gongini, Butterfly Soulfire, Reality Studio, Dont Shoot The Messengers, Henrik Vibskov, Paula Immich, AND-I, AVR and many more. On my visit I have found really incredible stuff for dramatically low prices reduced by 30-70%. Some impressions and details after the jump.
