Esther Perbandt does Menswear

Esther Perbandt AW11/12 Men

Berlin Fashion Week and Menswear, this story tends to end up in a tragedy. Obviously not a whole lot of designers care to show their menswear lines here in Berlin, because the Paris Men’s Fashion Week is taking place practically at the same time. But still Esther Perbandt – one of the very few established designers of the Berlin avant-garde scene who actually had a show this season – dared to debut her new male line during her runway show at the nhow hotel last Friday. And I really liked what I saw, especially the black jumpsuit and the jackets are amazing. See all looks after the jump.

A Romance: Kaviar Gauche

A good portion of romance and class is what defines the German label Kaviar Gauche. Even anti-marriage hardcorers get romantique at the sight of a Kaviar Gauche wedding dress. Some impressions of the recent show at Bebelplatz after the jump:

The Smartest Styles

Julie Eilenberger

The Torstraße has been the hub for showrooms and pop-up stores during this fashion week. Beside the new Happy Shop and the Edged Designer Sale and Showroom the Nokia Pop-Up Fashion Café was one of the hotspots on the streets. The concept was a combination of a fashion lounge and cafe, a young designer showroom and a temporary photo studio where fashion photographer Yves Borgwardt shot the smartest looks of upcoming designers on young faces and fashionistas of Berlin  for the new campaign for the Nokia C7 Smartphone.

While I was visiting the stunning showpiece collection of Julie Eilenberger was about to be shot in the studio. Julie was part of the Designer Scouts runway show about a year ago and it was great to see her new styles up-close. The UdK graduate currently interns at Christopher Kane in London and I’m really curious what she has lined-up next.

In the showroom I also shoke hands with the young designer Ivan Man who presented a very nice menswear collection. Some impressions of my visit at the fashion cafe after the jump. The Nokia Pop-Up Café will move on to Munich (January 27-29) and Düsseldorf (Febuary 3-5) next.

Designer Scouts Showcase at Achteinhalb

Designer Scouts Showcase

Today was the last day of the DESIGNER SCOUTS SHOWCASE at the Achteinhalb Concept Store. The grand opening on Wednesday was a great success. The designers created great looking installations in which they placed their models like moving manneqins in a decorated shop window. The wonderful Anna Wegelin presented her colorful collection “Lapka” in a playful environment with dolls wearing miniature versions of her outfits. It was absolutely fun to look at. The amazing Phoebe Heess created a completely different look with big black stripes hanging down from the ceiling mimiking details from her “Amarok” collection. All in black it was a totally stunning contrast to Anna’s color explosion.

Beyond the Valley presented themselves with a dramatic and quite elaborate fashion film about clothes taking on a life of its own, but with a very surprising ending. You can check it out online here. For my own accessorie label Carni I chose to seduce the guests with two handsome models offering delicious cupcakes in the style of my collection.

Anna, Phoebe and me also have a photo exhibition of our collections in the store that will go on until Febuary 19th. Impressions of the beginning and the end of the night, as well as the showroom photographed by me after the jump. Many beautiful photos of the main part of the evening by photographer André Wagner can be found over here.

The Crown Jewels

Superfertile

And again we had a little trip into the world of print publications. Suz and I wrote three little columns on different topics for the daily fashion week newspaper of BerlinFashion.TV. I had the chance to write about the topic Men and gave some insides about the new approach to male jewellery. You can find the text (in German) after the jump. Read on…

A problem with time

A problem with time

Past, present, future, whatever! I feel I have a problem with time. Sometimes it seems to me as if yesterday was still November, Easter would be soon over and weeks as the present one seem to pass by quickly, yet they are so long as if they were eternal. I doubt that the jewelry collection Timekiller by the Israeli designer Ruby  Star which I discovered on the Premium Exhibition actually could help with my problem. Still I think the jewellery pieces are pretty amazing and I would love to have them all. More pictures after the tick tock.

Cinéma goes Fashion Week

The Rio Girls at Cinéma - Bonnie Strange, Jackie Hide, Marie Nasemann

The Fashion Week edition of the Cinéma party last Monday was an even bigger blast then the opening two weeks ago. Maybe because everyone was already in the fashion mood. Or maybe because of the special guests: the Rio girls, the new girl band of Bonnie Strange, Jackie Hide and Marie Nasemann (that should have been my name!). They were not only nice to look at, but also very sweet and charming. The teaser of their new music video Neon Lights looks really promising, and I’m excited to see the full video by the end of next week. More impressions of the party after the jump.

A . F. Vandervorst – Fist my sneakers

Women with significant facial hair, long fisting-gloves and black sneakers opened this morning the official Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. The worn clothes were a little less provocative, apart from the girl with the big black sweater who had forgotten her bra. Somehow, most visitors looked tired and could not really deal with the many disco balls and the music. There were, however, no strange celebrities around and the paparazzis had the chance to have a long and relaxing breakfast. I would have recommended the design teamof A . F. Vandervorst to leave the sneaker fetish to their private activities, but found most of the looks and especially the leatherpieces very appealing. A quiet but good start to an interesting show- week.
