Mädchen Ohne Abitur – German Cuisine #4

Mädchen Ohne Abitur – German Cuisine #4

The unusual name of this restaurant based in the South of Kreuzberg roughly translates to “girl without highschool degree”. What does that have to do with anything, you might wonder! Nothing really, but it surely is a name you won’t forget so easily. Stepping into this place reminded me a bit of the appartment of our friend Julia who is a big fan of the color red, black and white Audrey Hepburn photos and kitchy little vintage goodies.

The food on the other hand is not kitchy at all. Here you will find traditional German dishes such as Königsberger Klopse and fried liver with apple and onions, mixed with a few international dishes. What I was most delighted with was the Laugengebäck that we got as a starter. The best starter bread I ever had. For some impressions of the restaurant and the food look after the jump.

In The Heat Of The Night

Sick Girls

It’s sticky and hot and we won’t find sleep in the heat of the night. Oh and it’s full moon as well, ahh, that is why I practically spend the night staring at the ceiling. Perfect party conditions I’d say. Who needs sleep anyway? Parties after the jump:

Vintage Glamour Blitz Special

During the day it’s flannel and flower prints, at night it becomes black silk and sequins. Vintage has as many styles as contemporary fashion does. Especially here in Berlin’s nightlife you will find a lot of gorgeous sequins dresses and extravagant accessories from the 80s. You think Lady Gaga’s style is all original? Well, think again!

On Friday night all those fans of the glamrock 80s will come together at the second Blitz party at LUX. We already had a blast at the first one, but the second one is surely going to be even stronger on the revival of the infamous Blitz kids scene.

We will have a Vintage Smackdown Special Blitz Photo Booth at the party to cast the final candidates for our Vintage Smackdown fashion show at Wedding Dress during Berlin Fashion Week. It’s the final day to take part in the online vintage challenge so take your chance, come by in your most glamorous vintage outfit and give us some drama! The runway and a main price of 500 EUR await you! Details after the jump.

The Beauty of Time

Opening, André Wagner

Berlin-born artist André Wagner has been working with us as a photographer for our Designer Scouts fashion events since we launched the project in January 2010. But fashion and event photography is only one of his many talents. In his new solo exhibition The Beauty of Time that opens this Friday at the Rosendahl, Thöne & Westphal gallery at Kurfürstendamm he is showcasing a series of photographs that circle around the theme of time as a physical dimension. So what looks like an archictural or landscape photograph turns out to be way more then just a captured moment. The photo above for example shows the busy fashion crowd at the Bread&Butter fair at Tempelhof Airport while they rush through the building. More previews and infos after the jump.

5 1/2 Questions for the Chanel guard

photo: jeroen020

I took part in a fashion photo shoot last month. Throughout the day I noticed a muscular man sitting with a box observing the photo shoot. I started chatting to him and it turned out he was a Chanel security man. He travels every day from Paris to photo shoots or clients all over the world to safely escort jewellery to its destination. Unbelievable but true. Read his answers to my 5 1/2 questions after the jump.

Carneval!

Jessica 6

It’s carneval weekend, so let’s all get on the street to celebrate! If you can stand spending the day between wasted youngsters, families with children and a watching crowd you will surely have a good time. For the others I advice the parties around the carneval, pretty much focused on Sunday since Monday is off. Parties after the jump:

Auf die Zwölf

Anton Waldt by Alexander Janetzko

Maybe some of you can remember the column „Auf die Zwölf“, which was part of the Berghain flyer form 2004 until 2006. These short stories are legendary. In “Auf die Zwölf”, Anton Waldt – today the chief editor of De:Bug – deals with the clichés of the techno scene in an ironical and charming way.

Now these short stories have been published as a book by Verbrecher Verlag. Read more about it in the German version of this article.
