THE AVANT/GARDE DIARIES

THE AVANT/GARDE DIARIES - TRANSMISSION 1 - Berlin

In the name of avant-garde could have been the motto of this past weekend. Mercedes-Benz invited top fashion designer Raf Simons to curate an event here in Berlin and THE AVANT/GARDE DIARIES – TRANSMISSION 1 is the result of it. In three days we experienced an exhibition, film screenings, concerts and a dance performance all selected by Simons himself. Of course the one or other party and drink was included in the program as well…

A review, a video and many impressions of the weekend after the jump.

The very sexy Concept A-CLASS car was presented in an impressive installation of light and smoke by light expert Thierry Dreyfus, product designer Konstantin Crcic and multi-media artist Germaine Kruip. Other pieces in the exhibition at BCC included work of artists Peter de Potter and Peter Saville.

On the stage we saw the bands These New Puritans, Goose and Fischerspooner, as well as a dance performance by the Michael Clark Company.

Highlights for me were definately the opening party on Friday that brought a lot of cool people from all over the world together in one place, the delicious rhubarb vanilla vodka long drink that I drank way too many of, and of course the one and a half concerts of New York electro pop band Fischerspooner that offered us two amazing shows.

With this mega event THE AVANT/GARDE DIARIES are not over yet. The project will continue in many forms, one of which is the beautiful video blog by the same name that introduces avant-garde artists from all over the world.
