The Weekly Event Guide

Hiroki Tsukuda, Indifferent portrait, 2011

It’s funny how I just had a couple of conversations about my trip to Japan in 2008 on the weekend and now when I started to make my research for the new event guide stumbled about this interesting exhibtion about a new Tokyo after the disaster. What else do we have in the guide? A sexy, queer bar night, rebel movies, slut parades, blitz revivals and fleamarkets. The week may start… after the jump.

Japanese artist Hiroki Tsukuda is making a statement to the situation in Tokyo after the disaster in March 2011. Her exhibition New Tokyo that shows her drawings of a futuristic and cynical vision of the city, opens on Friday at Galerie Lena Brüning, Almstadtstr. 50, at 19h.

Strychnin gallery opens the group show The C.O.P Guide to Eitquette curated by gallery owner Yasha Young and C.O.P Magazine, with a special cast exhibition for the benefit of breast cancer organization Keep a Breast, including some celebrities such as Katy Perry and Jonathan Rhys Meyer. Boxhagener Str. 36, 19h. The exhibitions runs until 4th of September.

Get you fancy outfits and glitter make-up out, people! It’s time for a journey back into the 80s to the rebirth of the New Romantics at the fourth Blitz party. Recent issues of this party have proven that you better come in a fabulous outfit, otherwise you will look pretty inappropriate! New venue is Horst Kreuzberg, at Tempelhofer Ufer 1, starts at 23h.

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

The Slutwalk Berlin takes place at Wittenbergplatz starting at 15h. It sounds a bit like a parade for “easy” girls. But it is actually a political demonstration for emancipation and against gender clichees, abuse and discrimination. If you are a true slut after all you can still come!

The flink festival at Lovelite in Friedrichshain combines music, performances, screenings, exhibitions, installations and pizza in one big party. Starts at 16h, Simplonstr. 38/40.

Sunday, August 14th, 2011

The Kreuzboerg Flowmarkt at Prinzessinengärten from last weekend was actually postponed to this Sunday. Sorry we missed that, but they don’t attend their facebook and blog very well those crazy hippies! Takes place at Moritzplatz, 10-18h.

If you are a bit less of a hippie then the Blackbird Fleamarket will be more suited for you 😉 It starts at 12:30h and goes on until 19h. There is also gonna be the Vegan brunch. Sanderstr. 11.
