A Fusion of Berlin and Rio

Last week Thursday Heineken celebrated the launch of their new city edition with a Berlin and Rio-themed fusion event at Voo Store. They invited a group of young and upcoming designers from Berlin and Rio to show their work and how much the styles of both cities connect with each other. To complement the fashion they also offered typical Brazilian fingerfood and their delicious Hoptails.

Of course this new event series also calls for a little raffle! Under every crown cap of this new edition there is a code that you can validate on the Open Your City website and instantly win amazing prices such as trips to Rio, New York, a bike, an instant camera, watches, headphones and other cool goodies. The new Heineken bottle edition is now available in stores! Good luck! After the jump some more infos on the designers and some impressions of the event.

Marielena and Esra from the young label Altinstark represented the Berlin part of the fashion presentation. We saw their experimental fashion already at the catwalk of the Weißensee show back in July. They focus on tracksuits, and sweaters. Everything that is comfortable and cool and what the girls wear themselves or what they would their friends want to wear.

Marie Raz is a designer with Brazilian roots who now lives and works in Munich and Berlin. Her collection is all beautiful menswear with some very amazing handpainted drawings on the collars and shoulders of some of her shirts. The artworks are a collaboration with her friend Lena Grewenig and it reminds me a lot of the streets of Rio full of flowers, birds and lots of green.

The shimmering, multi-facettet weaved fabric of the garment below was one of the most stunning elements from the Weißensee show that I mentioned earlier. It is part of a group collection titled Resort by designers Lara Smirek, Chi Mai Schreiber and George Naoum. With their tropical embroidery and prints they pretty much nailed the picture postcard images that you have in your head about Rio. It’s a really fun collection!
