The Berlin Broken Hearts Club

Today we have a very special piece for you that was submitted to us by one of our lovely readers. It’s a poem about the so-called Berlin Broken Hearts Club and it pretty much sums up the fate of many lost hearts in the city. We love the humorous approach to it, because what else are we gonna do than take it light and mend our broken hearts with a good laugh about our miserable selves. Welcome to the Berlin Broken Hearts Club, you lovely single girls and boys!

Welcome to the Berlin Broken Hearts Club
All are welcome
Stay awhile.
……………….– It’s a safe space.

Upon entry, you might find yourself
Destitute and desolate
Heart of ash
Bereft of cash
But don’t worry your pretty little posies
Entrance costs you nothing but
………………………………..– a broken heart

You can throw it in the river Spree
Or down the winter depths
Hide it in a dark room
Just get it off your chest

Replace its steady beat
With an electronic pulse
That will set the blood pumping
To a rhythmic convulse.

We’ll get you back on your feet
One booted step in front of the other
With the hope of a summer
The guarantee of a lover
…………………………………– or three
A wake of souls that compliment yours
In all measures of diversity.

When you’re ready
Which you won’t be
…………………………..– they never are
It will be your time to leave
But it’s cause for celebration
And no time to grieve

You don’t go empty handed here
Pick it up on your way out
The upcycled heart
Pieced together with infinite parts
of others gone by
The Berlin Broken Hearts Club
…………………….– please, take a flyer.
