The Most Amazing Bookshops in Berlin

The Most Amazing Bookshops in Berlin

With most places closed during these months, there is really very little we can do these days, not even going shopping. It’s been an interesting time for us not really being able to give you the guides we are used to compiling. But there is one last type of place that has not yet closed during the lockdown: Book shops! We already have a guide about book shops, but we noticed some places have closed and some are new, so it’s time for a new one!

With the rise of the digital and our attention span shrinking by the minute, it’s actually a miracle that so many cool book shops still exist and have not been killed by online mega shops. We’re glad that there are so many people out there still appreciating physical books and we hope it stays like that. Berlin has a lot to offer in terms of book shops, from big to small, from mixed to super-specialized. We picked some of our favorite book shops that offer a variety of different books. We hope they give you a place to head out to when you wanna leave your house for a change. Happy reading!

photo: Hendrik Thul.

I am more than happy to notice our society’s new obsession with self-development, mindfulness and general mental hygiene. “Self Care” is not a niche anymore, it has become more of a common need. Even in Berlin, where our generation rather used to give in to pleasure and partying than nurturing thoughts on self-reflection. Now, practicing morning meditation daily with the Headspace App or going for a healthy breakfast has become a trusted routine for many.

Yoga – the mother of physical and mental self-care – is now more in demand than ever. So we thought we’d encourage you to take care of your wellbeing and bring you closer to some of Berlins most amazing Yogis. Their expertise about the yoga scene will give you an insight of which yoga studio to visit and who to follow online for more information on meditation practice and the mindset that comes with it.

Secret Diary of a Private Yoga Teacher in Berlin

Secret Diary of a Private Yoga Teacher in Berlin

The following guest-article is brought to us by our favorite Berlin-based Yoga teacher and founder of Your Space Michaela Aue who is making the iHeartBerlin team sweat like animals and giggle like kids in all of her classes.

Berlin is Yoga heaven but Berlin men can be a Yoga hell. But before I go into this in detail let me tell you just a bit about me. I am yoga teacher living and working in Berlin for many years now. My best friend would probably describe me as a white-wearing creative chaos of some sort. For most of my adult life I have been consumed with the search of the ‘Mind-Body-Connection’.  Sounds so cheesy, but it is so true. Some might call it ‘the moment of bliss’ while others call it ‘being in your center’. The balance between body and mind is probably something we can all agree on for now.

10 Years of iHeartBerlin – Thank You & Photos

10 Years of iHeartBerlin – Thank You & Photos

I am still quite overwhelmed with feelings of joy, especially now going through all the fun photos of our special night (if you have more photos send them to us!). 10 years is a very special number, but I’m glad that we could do this big number justice. Teaming up with the Olympus Perspective Playground was an amazing opportunity that I am so proud of and thankful for. Being surrounded by the amazing artworks of this immersive exhibition and the stunning venue of Kraftwerk was just much better than I imagined it to be. And by the amount of euphoric faces that I saw during the night I am confident to say I was not the only one.

Techno, Salsa & Pharmacy Windows: An Interview with Natalia Escobar

Techno, Salsa & Pharmacy Windows: An Interview with Natalia Escobar

A power woman with many careers: Natalia Escobar is many-faced, ‘many-named’ and many-talented’. Ultimately, when she served the first sounds to ever push Berghain’s new Säule floor through wave rhythms, drony Techno and experimental Electro a bigger audience came to realize that Miss Escobar is a Berlin force to be reckoned with. Yet, where others reach artistic capacity, the Colombian beauty seems to only really get going: Art exhibitions in various cities, making her own music under different aliases, DJ sets for Vivienne Westwood or the Techno Temple itself. If you don’t have her on your radar just yet, she should be now! Catch her DJing this Saturday at our 10 Year Anniversary and read on about Natalia’s favorite dancing spots, her beautifully simple love for Berlin, and her upcoming, first ever EP.
