Friedrichshain

The Transit at Ostkreuz has been my favorite restaurant in quite some time. It is not only really nicely decorated with all those colorful birdcages hanging from the ceiling (don’t worry, they don’t have roasted canaries on the menu), it also has the most delicious Thai dishes that you can get in Friedrichshain. And what is special about it: They serve all their tasty little dishes in small portions for 3 EUR each. This way you can stack your table full of things and everyone can get a taste of everything. A bit like tapas, only better tasting. Oh and the coco panna cotta with mango sauce is a MUST HAVE. Now that I think of it, I feel like having it today… But as I don’t live in Friedrichshain anymore I would probably head to the second Transit at Rosenthaler Platz. More photos and details after the jump.

How I love supper clubs. This is already the third one we have been featuring here and if you asked me, the more the better! It has always been a unique, delicious and fun experience and a fantastic alternative to a regular visit to a restaurant.
The Lotería Supper Club is situated in Friedrichshain near Boxhagener Platz. We were lucky to be invited to the first dinner they made and it already made a very good impression! We hit the evening off with a tasty and strong Margarita, so I was practically drunk after the first 5 minutes and it kept on going like that for the rest of the night, as we constantly got our wine glasses refilled with every one of the 6 courses. The menu had a Californian and Mexican style including quesadillas, a pumpkin soup, a warm roasted beet salad with spinach, orange, and pickled red onions, a lime-pomegranate granita, silky soft and tasty lamb shanks as the main dish and a Mexican chocolate panna cotta. Yummie!
The next date for the Lotería Supper Club will be on Saturday March 6 at 19h. If you don’t want to miss out on this you should make your reservation now, as the supper club is limited to 10 guests. More impressions of our dinner after the jump.

No city gives street artists so much credit like Berlin does. I love to see tourist photographing little Lucys with her cat or other artworks. One really nice artist whose work was on my radar since he did the design colaboration with the scarf designer Aschön is PABO. PABO’s distinctive portraits have been appearing at carefully selected spots around Berlin.
He will show his work this Friday at Superplan. This little Gallery is not only known for its urban inspired exhibitions but also for quite affordable prints. Take a look after the jump for more work of PABO and the flyer of the exhibition.

If you are not on the guestlist at least you need a guestlist attitude. As it would be the most normal thing on the planet that your name is on that exclusive 30 names list. I tried at least as I went to the very special vernissage of Wolfgang Tillmans at the Panorama Bar last Friday. To get in I simply and very succesfully told the doorman that I was personally invited by Wolfgang himself. So to be bold sometimes works. If you want to know more about this artsy event you better read on in German!

I have been living in Friedrichshain for more than 5 years now, but I never really looked at the street art that you find here. Since I bought my first DSLR, everything changed. I suddenly started to notice my neighbourhood. Thank you, Pentax! So I found out: Friedrichshain is not just the district where you can buy Sternburger Pilsener (the cheapest beer that you can get) at every bakery, it is also a district with amazing street art. More of that after the jump.

Last Monday we went to the open booth night at Monster Ronson’s Ichiban Karaoke. I haven’t actually done Karaoke there in a while. But when I do it is always the same game: In the beginning you are just to shy to start performing on your own. Nervously you flip around in the song book claiming you still haven’t found the right song for your debut. Then you start supporting your friends with the chorus, until finally the ice breaks and you sing your own songs (usually a couple of drinks have something to do with it, too). That’s when the fun beginns. And in our case we almost couldn’t stop! And I have to tell you, Katja from Glamcanyon is actually a great performer. No wonder she’s trying to form a band right now. Some fun impressions of our night and the details about Monster Ronson’s after the jump.

The Palisaden Supper Club is a private restaurant which is run by sweet American couple near Alexanderplatz. Once a month they transform into chef and waiter and open their apartment to about ten people for a four-course-meal. We had the chance to meet very nice folks while having a very good dinner, although this seems to be for the more mature audience. That evening we had the New-York-connection, many Americans were sitting on the table, so conversation was held mostly in English. It’s much more fun than just going to a restaurant, where you normally don’t talk to the people on the other tables. The next Palisaden Supper will be this Friday and we will put the following dates in our event calendar. More impressions and the menu of next Friday after the jump. Enjoy!

I’ve been thinking about having some kind of fan-item for iHeartBerlin for a while now. When we were in London during Fashion Week last February the press badge at the Vauxhall Fashion Scout caught my attention. It was a golden laser-cut acrylic heart the size of a palm. I thought that would make a cool necklace.
I once again stumbled uppon some cool acrylic necklaces when I saw the 5Preview collection. I totally love the black pseudo Chanel logo necklace and I wear it a lot.
So a few weeks back I got an eMail by jewellery designer Suparina who runs a cute small jewellery store in Friedrichshain mainly aimed at a younger audience. And guess what her specialty is: Laser-cut acrylic. I told her about my idea and she was so kind to make this sweet iHeartBerlin.de necklace that you see above. I’ve been wearing it ever since and people keep grabbing it asking if they could have one. So, what do you think? You likey?
After the jump you will see some of Suparina‘s own designs, my favorite being the big pink transformer necklace.

This Saturday there will be another Fashionhain Nightshopping event in Friedrichshain. Many stores in our neighborhood will join and offer booze, music and barbecue to some serious late night shopping. Our friends from Episoda will have a denim sale that night and live music by Sonic Me and Thomas Azier. While we are at it I would also like to show you their latest photoshoot with some of their pieces which you can see more of after the jump.
