Kreuzberg

Everybody goes to Kottywood

Gentrification is a strange Dilemma. You want to have cool and interesting art and events going on around your neighbourhood, but at the same time you know that these are the things making your neighbourhood more expensive and a lucrative investement. Even if the whole Kreuzberg area is gentrificated already, there seems to be a last place which held up the Kreuzberg spirit. There are so many interesting things going on right know inside and around the giant Kreuzbergcenter that I made a little summary. You will find it after the jump (in German).

Tintin

Tintin

When walking along the Paul-Linke-Ufer at the border of Kreuzberg and Neukölln you will quickly notice that this street is brimming with restaurants and cafes. The Tintin might be almost the last one on the block, but for me it is the most appealing one with its minimalistic industrial interior (which by the way was done by the same people who designed the Panoramabar) and modern kitchen.

They menu looks surprisingly short, but considering I would have ordered almost everything except for the seafood dish I would call it effective rather than short. On my first visit I tried two dishes of the day menu which were the veal ragout with risotto and the walnut-potatoe-carotte rolls, as well as the club sandwich from the regular menu. All three dishes were absolutely delicious and I can’t wait to go there again to try out their new creations of their day menu. Some impressions of the food and more details about the restaurant after the jump.

Tell us your favorite place and win!

As a blog who features cool places in Berlin we are often asked what our all-time favourite hot-spot of the city is. Usually we respond to the question with a shrug. There simply are too many great locations to decide for just one. So, we were once again struggling for an answer when Range Rover popped the question on us the other day.

For practical reasons we are now diverting this question to you, our clever readership. What is your favorite place in Berlin at the moment and why? It can be everything from public places, bars, galleries, shops, restaurants, cafés, fashion studios, parties, cultural meeting points or even a group of people. Anything that is special to you and that excites you. Leave a comment below with your answer and get a chance to win a 300 EUR gift voucher from ASOS and 4×2 exclusive tickets for the secret Range Rover party. You have time until December 31st 2010.

All your suggestions will be uploaded to the Range Rover website and people will be able to vote for the best places. The places with the highest votes will then be explored by us and introduced in detail.

Now thinking about it there is one place I could call my favorite of this year: It’s the recently rediscovered Madame Claude. Don’t you just love places where cute blondes are hanging from the ceiling?

Peaches does herself

Why does nobody ever talk about female masturbation? Is this one of the last remaining female secrets of our generation? Well, most girls I know claim that they never do it (for a guy this seems hard to believe). Actually I know just one girl – I could call a masturbation mistress. She knows how to come, where to come and when to come (mostly several times a day). Another quite popular lady of Berlin’s nightlife who does not seem to be ashamed of this particular hobby is our lovely Canadian rockstar Peaches. So if you don’t want to miss the details you should definetly visit her upcoming musical Peaches Does Herself. Dirty details and a synopsis after the jump.

When Bloggers become Artists – or – About the meaning of urban!

artfairfoto-109

While the Stroke Urban Art Fair took place in Berlin, I was asked for an interview by Welt TV concerning the photo I handed in for the special section When Bloggers become Artists, a project within the art fair, where a handful of Bloggers were asked about their interpretation of urban life in their city. How I am explaining why I have chosen that particular photo and what I’m thinking about being called an artist, watch it here.

The Streetart Canteen

dsc_0255_001

Inside the vibrant Wrangelkiez a new restaurant called Eckstück opened recently. Its walls are covered by artwork of Berlin’s countless street artists. Even if some of the graffiti work does not reflect my taste, the work of Pabo and Hr. v. Bias is really beautiful. The menu consist mainly of pizza and the atmosphere has something of a student canteen. For all fans of street art the visit of Eckstück provides a good overview of the styles of many Berlin-based street artists. More pictures and the address, after the jump.

3 Sisters

blog_vintageweekend02

To try out new restaurants is more of a couple thing. Single women don’t eat anything anyway until they caught a new man and single men do not understand why they should spend so much money for food if they can still eat a lot cheaper at the snack-bar at the corner where it always tastes best. Okay perhaps it’s not always like that. But the little kick of the new thing can be enjoyed far better with the loved one than with friends or relatives. Visiting the Three Sisters will be a kick that I’ll save for later for a while. In morbid Casino of the Künstlerhaus Bethanien, this restaurant opened its doors to visitors not so long ago. If you are ready to engage with new stuff then you will find the address after the jump.

The Korean Princess

Kimchi Princess

To be perfectly honest, I didn’t exactly warm up with the local cuisine when i was visiting South Korea and I’m equally unimpressed with the food at the popular Yamyam. So when I received the invite to the opening of the new Korean restaurant Kimchi Princess sometime last year I was not exactly thrilled about it. Especially since Kimchi is a dish I don’t really care for at all. But for some reason I landed there after all the other day and to my big surprise it was really so delicious! Their specialty is Korean grill and we took the standard which is thin sliced meat. With 16-19 EUR per person it’s actually a bit pricy for Asian standards, but so worth it. We ate it all until the last bit, except for the Kimchi that came as a side dish… Details and more impressions of the stylish restaurant in Kreuzberg after the jump.
