Will be home late, leave the light on

CHARLIE ISOE: ‚JUDAS WAS A GOOD DANCER’ (2008);

Charlie Isoe – Judas Was A Good Dancer, 2008

“We exist in the nervous bowels of Late Capitalism. In this age of disposable, plastic consumerism, I observe the late nights, the addiction, and the perverse. I am not a passive observer, but rather a reflexive participant. Where the disparate worlds of decadence and desperate necessity meet – the liminal spaces – those of consumption and addiction, I see the animalistic side of human nature, and it gives scope to the contemporary Human Condition. We are tourists in our own lives. We often miss the bits that are real.” – Charlie Isoe, 2008

Tomorrow the CircleCulture Gallery opens an interesting new exhibition with the works of Charlie Isoe, a young Australian artist with a strong street art background who currently lives and works in Berlin. More images and details after the jump.

Muses with Eating Disorders?

Untitled from 32 Kilo by Ivonne Thein

photo by Ivonne Thein

When I look at the Berlin Fashion Week from a psychological perspective I have to say that I saw way more eating disorders than fashions running up and down the catwalk. I expected Berlin to be different than the other fashion capitals, but for the larger part it wasn’t. It makes it even worse just by trying to be like the others. I will elaborate on this topic a little further in the German part of this article, so press the German flag to learn more. But first of all I have to say thanks to the photographer Ivonne Thein who allowed us to show you her work from the series 32 Kilo. This Friday she will be part of a group exhibition at the Loop gallery. For our English speaking readers there are some pictures and details after the jump. The rest please continue in German.

Vive la KAISERIN

Kaiserin Magazine Exhibition, photo by Aleksandar Todorovic

The Paris-based art magazine Kaiserin describes itself as a magazine for boys with problems. I assume they mean gay men, especially if I take the many pictures of naked gentlemen into account. The recent release of their 5th issue is accompanied by an exhibition at the Exile gallery in Kreuzberg which is prove that art for/from gay men does not neccessarily have to involve nudity. The exhibition showcases photographs and installations with very mixed styles, ranging from graphical to documentary. I do get a little Wolfgang Tillmans feeling when I look at it. More impressions and details after the jump.

Creature Mountains

Character Landscapes at Intoxicated Demons

It’s getting quirky again at the Intoxicated Demons Gallery in Kreuzberg. German newcomer Andreas Pistner is showing his creature mountains in Character Landscapes. What makes those illustrations special is the antique printing technique from the 18th century that he uses to bring his creations on paper.

In the back of the gallery you will find access to the secret gallery in the staircase where Canadian artist Stefan Thompson showcases his Ecofriendly drawings. More images and details after the jump.

Cabinets of Curiosities

Redwood Cabinet by Madeline von Foerster

Redwood Cabinet

Today the Strychnin gallery opens an interesting new exhibition by American artist Madeline von Foerster that looks quite intriguing. All the paintings of this show depict so called cabinets of curiosities, and they do this quite vividly. On the first look I totally thought some of them were sculptural work. Find out more about these magical cabinets after the brush stroke.
