Bixels – Baked Potatoes Deluxe

Bixels

When you think of baked potatoes you probably think of aluminum foile and creme fraiche. Bixels at Mulackstrasse in Mitte will serve you way more then that. Their amazing potatoes are baked in an old iron oven and topped with all sorts of vegetables, different types of meat and herbs. At our recent visit we tried them with spicy chicken and Argentinian beef and they were absolutely delicious! Have a look at some more impressions of the small restaurants and the details after the jump.

Oukan 71 Grand Opening

Oukan 71 Grand Opening

Oukan 71 is a brand new avant-garde fashion store, asian tea bar and restaurant at Kronenstraße near Stadtmitte. Last Thursday the boutique celebrated its grand opening presenting their selection of designers, teas and food. I was quite impressed really. The store is very elegant and modern and the choice of labels quite intriguing. Except for Ayzit Bostan, Antonia Goy and Vitor I hadn’t heard about any of them. Many of them are smaller Scandinavian brands, but they all have a Japanese inspired twist. Such as the Kimono-style wind and water proof coats by Norwegian Rain, or the Origami details on the clothes of the Munich-based label Fusionem.

I think it’s quite a daring concept to sell such avant-garde designs of young labels here in Berlin. I’m glad that someone’s finally going through with it and can’t wait to see what other collections will be added to the store in the future. Some impressions of the opening and details of the store after the jump.

Bye Bye Artist Place

Getting rid of squatter artist houses seems to be the new hobby of Berlin’s Ordnungsämter. The artist house in the old Brewery Friedrichshöhe at Landsberger Alee 54 was one that I have really good memories of and remember it to be a really special place. Now it’s gone and luxury lofts are going to be constructed inside the house. A good friend of mine wrote an article in German describing the whole situation. The text and more impressions of the place after the jump.

Is it art or just Idealistic?

The thing I like about artists working in Berlin is that they are not so much bound to economic values like in other big cities and still can have a decent living out of their art. A good way of supporting Berlin artists and don’t spend thousands on a painting is a project called Idealist.  The Idea behind it is to make a book that works as an unique live exhibition. The book is limited to 5000 pieces and has Berlin artists working on the topic of “Kampfgeist”. So, any piece of art in it was especially made for this book. I’m really impressed with this book and think that the price of 100 EUR is pretty ok for that kind of limited edition and effort and work behind it. You can see the book this weekend at the Stroke Urban Art Fair. More about the project and some images after the jump.

Help the Prinzessinnengärten to win!

Kreuzbörg Flowmarkt at Prinzessinnengärten

photos: ichbineinbaum.de

The Prinzessinengärten at Berlin Moritzplatz are an amazing place with a genious and innovative idea behind it. Using mobile vegetable patches, they transformed a 6,000 m² wasteland in the centre of Berlin into an organic urban farm. They also has several beehives and a cafe serving food made from the produce grown in the garden. Alongside its ecological aims, the project intends to offer local residents a new kind of urban space, where they can meet, work and relax together having several events there like concerts, dinners or even a fleamarket. We always liked the project and are now happy to support it. They already won the smart future mind award last year here in Berlin and are now in the run for the smart future minds community award which will support the project in the next year. Vote for them here and support our local heroes. After the jump more pictures of our trip to the Kreuzbörg Flowmarkt taking place at the Prinzessinengärten some weeks ago.

Win a bracelet by Sabrina Dehoff

Berlin-based designer Sabrina Dehoff always has the nicest little offsite events during Berlin Fashion Week. I remember quite a few parties and cocktail receptions taking place in showrooms or in front of her shop and it’s a shame we actually never got around reviewing it here properly. But now we have a wonderful occasion to make up for the lack of coverage. We got our hands on one precious Sabrina Dehoff bracelet that we would like to raffle off to you girls. Some impressions of her beautiful flagship store, the bracelet and how you can win it – after the jump.

Hear us ROA

I have more passion for illustrated and sophisticated street art then for graffiti or more simple symbolic pieces from the likes of Banksy & co. One artist I have observed for a while now is ROA. He magically turns animals inside out. In a brutal yet aesthetic kind of way. To see some of his work you can visit the Skalitzers Contemporary Art Gallery. Their current exhibition is an annual showcase, that includes the work of ROA, as well as some other gallery artists. More pictures of the exhibition and all the information you need after the jump.
