Das Neue Schwarz

cc

I love a pop, and even better: a pop-up shop. The online vintage boutique Das Neue Schwarz is just doing that these days at Mulackstrasse in Mitte. How practical that you can now get your fingers on their selected fine designer vintage goods before you buy them. They do not only carry formerly unaffordable pieces by Helmut Lang, YSL, MMM, Prada Escada and Balenciaga, but also clothes by avant-garde heroes like Bernhard Willhelm, C.Neeon and Ann Demeulemeester. Nice. Details after the jump.

Some Night Shopping

sessun

Sessun SS10

Oh, I do miss my old neighborhood around the Boxhagener Platz from time to time. I hardly ever come by there anymore. Many friends who still live or work there I haven’t seen in a while. Many restaurants and shops that I miss, the possibility to get Ben&Jerry’s icecream to every time of the day (which is close to impossible in Mitte!).

This coming Saturday many shops will be open until midnight with drinks and fun and a little bit of party on the street. They did this already last year in the summer. My friends of Visby will be open too. They are especially interesting for the girls with labels such as Modstöm, Twist & Tango, Sessun, Motel, Mimic, Insight, Rules by Mary, Insight & Nümph and Aschön. Look after the jump for details and a list of participating stores.

Cobra Style

downloadattachmenthtm

While Indian Cobras are dying because of polluted water, Berlin is expecting a generous amount of snakes this week. Yes! Berlin Fashion Week is coming again and I guess you are all dying for the little guestlist places at the upcoming events. How to survive the poisonous looks and the evil remarks about your outfit which is always last season no matter what you do? Well I got myself an evil looking but sweet as honey bodyguard and some toxic outfits myself. If you prefer a more peaceful yet trendy way, I recommend you take a look at the Yoga collection from the new upcoming Berlin-based label Umasan. For more lookbook pictures and informations about their flagship store opening after the jump.

The Penguin Pop-Up

penguin

Oh, don’t you just love it, when something pops up? Like a message on Skype by someone you care for, or an ad in your browser that says you just won an iPhone, or an opportunity to make out with someone hot, or… the possibilities are endless.

In the case of this little story we are talking about the popping up of a temporary store, specifically one that sells Original Penguin clothing, hence its name: The Original Penguin Pop-up Store. Hurray! It will pop open its dolly little doors this Saturday at 18h next to/withinside the freshly opened Trüffelschwein menswear store at Rose-Luxemburg-Strasse that has recently moved into a new bigger place across the street and is therefore also worth a visit. Pop by for drinks and music and some silly handclapping! The invite after the jump.

Shusta, bleib bei deinen Leisten

splash

“Schuster, bleib bei deinen Leisten” is a German proverb meaning “you better stick to what you’re best at”. In the case of this fine boutique at Rosenthaler Platz it is definately selecting cool brands and great shoes for our consuming pleasure. Hurrah! I have been walking past (and into) Shusta now quite frequently since it’s opening earlier this year. For some reason I never came around writing about it. But since a friend of mine bought this fabulous backpack there it popped back into my conscience and now up on this blog. Hurray! Brands featured in their selection include Royal RepubliQ, Striipe, Keds, Schmoove, Dico, Atelier do Sapato, as well as the bags of Waste and many more. The best thing, you can order everything online in their webshop. Yeay! More images and details after the shoe lace.

Read more magazines!

ily_repros-003857

i love you

A couple of weeks ago, I read some wise words about the difference of blogs and real analogue magazines by Jan Joswig: “blogs give you the news, magazines teach you the style”. First I was hesitating, what almost never occurs when Mr. Joswig is involved. In my mind I was browsing all the brilliant blogs that keep me up all night and certainly teach me about style (I still figure out a way to get that Rodarte cardigan I saw online without ending up homeless for the next six months). But in the end, I had to agree. There’s nothing better than having a day off and spend it with a nice cup of coffee and a freshly printed magazine. Browsing through the untouched pages, smelling the weird odour, categorizing articles in “must read now” and “keep it for later”… There is something good and noble about the oldschool-way of publishing, and to me it’s really inspiring to see people with enthusiasm and dedication working on it.

So you can tell, that I was super thrilled to see shops like Motto Distribution in Kreuzberg or do you read me?! in Mitte emerging during the last year. Real heaven for magazine lovers: Arkitip, A Magazine, Fantastic Man - you name it, they have it.

This Saturday, do you read me?! celebrates their first anniversary. Drop by for a little get-together at the shop and a discussion about independent publishing with editors of 032c, Dummy, i love you, Intersection, Lodown and Mono.Kultur. And since it’s officially fall, I guess it’s fair to make plans for next year: the CMYK, a festival for independent magazines, will take place in Berlin. I saw a little preview at art berlin contemporary and really liked the strange magazines the guys where presenting. We keep you updated on that. Details after the jump.
