Light Graffiti

miam_0040

I guess you all have seen some of these long exposure light writing photos that you will find all over the internet. It’s so easy to do you would hardly call it art. But in the case of Miam you might want to reconsider. Those guys have brought the light writing to perfection creating 3dimensional graffitis of light into urban and industrial settings. I especially like their work with LED lights that are more graphical but also look a lot like brush strokes.

This Friday they will open their new exhibition at We Make Stuff Good, the indoor gallery at Stattbad Wedding. More of their work and details after the jump.

Who is she?

iamamiwhoami

I wear colored contacts, fake eyelashes, a blond Lady Gaga wig, I am covered in black paint and my voice is distorted. Can you still guess who I am? Hint: I like to get dirrrrty…

It all started with a weird video clip of trees with arms and legs anonymously posted on YouTube about three months ago. In the end of that video you could see a blonde woman in some sort of naturalistic, dark womb. During the next weeks more videos where posted under the name IamAmIWhoami showing more of this strange woman with fake eyelashes covered in dirt. People started to speculate that this is some sort of viral campaign for an upcoming album release which it obviously is. The guesses which artist it might be ranged from big pop singers like Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga over cool semi-popular acts like Goldfrapp, The Knife and Santigold to smaller artists like Margaret Berger, Sia, Ladytron and Lykke Li. Just by looking at the videos it’s pretty obvious that it must be someone the record company spends a lot of money on. And judging from the music, it might sound dark and electronic, but it’s still so perfectly polished that it indicates to being parts or interludes of a pop record. I would consider it to be Goldfrapp if I hadn’t already heard their new album which is an 80s disco record and clearly not it. There are a lot of clues that point to Christina Aguilera (which you can read about here) and as she has a new album lined up I think she is the safest guess. I actually only like one of Aguilera’s albums which was her second: Stripped. It was quite brilliant and compared to the one before quite a change of style. So even if some people doubt it’s her because the mysterious videos are way too unconventional for a major pop artist like her I am pretty confident that she is IamAmiWhoami.

After the jump you’ll see all the videos in order of their surfacing. The animals that are shown towards the end of the video have been decrypted to point to a big revelation of the whole campaign this coming Monday 11am (Californian time, which means 20h here in Berlin). So stay tuned! I’m quite intrigued by the music you can here in the videos, especially the second one which sounds like vintage Goldfrapp glam rock!!

Beer and Champagne

jimbo-starlight

Jimbo Starlight

While it was kind of tricky to gather enough cool events for our weekly party guide lately this week is absolutely and it will be hard to decide where to go. Will we sip champagne in the Malzfabrik, go on a blind date at the Hoppetosse, get sick at Picknick or wasted at Panorama Bar? Oh what the hell, we are only young once, so let’s do it ALL! The parties after the jump.

Members of our iHeartBerlin.de Facebook Group have the chance to win guestlist spots for the DFA Night at .HBC this Saturday. So you better join now.

Megalopolis

megalopolis3_0284

photos: Thomas Aurin

There are some theater and dance companies that make me wish to have pursuit other career options. Since I am way too old to become a dancer I have to limit myself to watching their incredible perfomance and perhaps review them. One special company which is such a pain to watch because they are so incredibly good that you wish you could be on stage with them is the Costanza Macras ensemble Dorky Park. If you never heard of them and wish to experience my unbareable craving to be involved, they are playing their new piece Megalopolis this weekend at Schaubühne. More pictures, a trailer, a summary and details after the jump.

While one will will color the old swimhall with a stream of spirited and uplifting images, the other will improvise some grass roots electronic music on self designed analog instruments. While one will present a glamorous Electro Pop Extravaganza, the other will do a dance performance interpreting the night’s theme La Jeunesse Doree. And there will be lots of DJs and live concerts. What more could you wish for? Details after the jump.

Loteria Supper Club

Loteria Supper Club

How I love supper clubs. This is already the third one we have been featuring here and if you asked me, the more the better! It has always been a unique, delicious and fun experience and a fantastic alternative to a regular visit to a restaurant.

The Lotería Supper Club is situated in Friedrichshain near Boxhagener Platz. We were lucky to be invited to the first dinner they made and it already made a very good impression! We hit the evening off with a tasty and strong Margarita, so I was practically drunk after the first 5 minutes and it kept on going like that for the rest of the night, as we constantly got our wine glasses refilled with every one of the 6 courses. The menu had a Californian and Mexican style including quesadillas, a pumpkin soup, a warm roasted beet salad with spinach, orange, and pickled red onions, a lime-pomegranate granita, silky soft and tasty lamb shanks as the main dish and a Mexican chocolate panna cotta. Yummie!

The next date for the Lotería Supper Club will be on Saturday March 6 at 19h. If you don’t want to miss out on this you should make your reservation now, as the supper club is limited to 10 guests. More impressions of our dinner after the jump.

Face to Face

pabo-preacher-final

No city gives street artists so much credit like Berlin does. I love to see tourist photographing little Lucys with her cat or other artworks. One really nice artist whose work was on my radar since he did the design colaboration with the scarf designer Aschön is PABO. PABO’s distinctive portraits have been appearing at carefully selected spots around Berlin.

He will show his work this Friday at Superplan. This little Gallery is not only known for its urban inspired exhibitions but also for quite affordable prints. Take a look after the jump for more work of PABO and the flyer of the exhibition.

Berlin’s new party district!

bodibill

Bodibill

Sorry party friends, from now on you will have to travel a little to get to a party! Zehlendorf turned out to be the new place for electronic parties. Yes,  Zehlendorf is the district at the end of the S-Bahn linie number whatever and it is famous for expensive houses and fancy rich boys and girls wearing stupid clothes giving them the look of a privileged child, which they are, indeed. Since quite some time strange things happen on the weekends, the “crowd” of Zehlendorf meets for electronic parties that they call “rave” and people get drunk and they actually dance. They now even plan to have their own club in Zehlendorf! Why I mention this here? Well, teens under 18 are allowed to get in there, only from 24.00 they need to be guarded by an adult. This seems very social, get those kids from the streets before they become criminals and practise drug abuse! Especially the kids in Zehlendorf seem to be in danger, all that parental pressure to bring home good grades and to become a lawyer or doctor or worse..Parties after the jump:
