The Week, again

Julia Zange, photo: Daniel Josefsohn for me.style

FINALLY the summer is back. After last week was uncomfortably cold we can finally go out in the sun again! So it’s time for hanging out in front of cafes and in parks enjoying every ray of sun. But of course there are a few other things to do. Look for this weeks events after the jump.

The Interactive Week

photo: Sascha Weidner

This week is one of those versatile affairs again. We have two very interesting photography exhibitions opening by Berlin-based talents Sascha Weidner and Maxime Ballesteros, and the rest of the week is dominated by very participative events: Sew a dress at a DIY party, climb into an interactive installation at an indie-game party, prepare an amazing dish at a cooking party, and make your own costume for a masked ball. This and much more after the jump.

The Cool Week

Nerd Rules – Hot Cheese Crew

This weekend the Gallery Weekend Berlin is going into its next round and a lot of events circle around this art happening. For art lovers and gallery hoppers there are countless openings to attend. But there is also a lot more going on. My personal favorites being the concerts of Bodi Bill, the release party of OE Magazine and the live gig of my favorite young musician Rangleklods on Sunday. Look after the jump for this weeks events.

The Easter Week

photo: Tina Winkhaus

Chocolate bunnies, colorful easter eggs, fluffy yellow chicks. It can no longer be ignored: It’s the Easter week. As you know this season we will replace the kitchy Easter eggs we painted in our childhood with some gorgeous avant-garde designer eggs. The Couture Eggs have been roling in since the weekend and this evening we will put them online for our Charity Auction. Let’s see what else this week has to offer, after the jump.

The most popular Couchsurfer

After spending 90 nights in 90 different beds and writing a book about it Christine Neder could now probably write a follow-up called 90 days and 90 promotional appointments. Right now you here her on every radio station and even on TV speaking about her experience as an extreme couch surfer.

Her book 90 Nächte, 90 Betten has just been released and can be ordered online here. When I received my press copy a while ago and read the chapter about the night she spend at my place I honestly blushed a little bit. I was pretty surprised about her impression and thoughts about the night.

On April 1 she will have a reading here in Berlin. After the jump you can learn more about it.

Urban Art Circus

Mrs K. B.

Tomorrow night, on March 12 2011 the Heimathafen Neukölln welcomes the Urban Art Circus to town. This event is also part of the Street Lab Berlin festival mentioned earlier. The Urban Art Circus is planned as a unique art project that brings together urban art forms in an experimental way. Based on hip hop battle traditions several art forms will compete against each other in tournament style.
The audience stands in the middle of this clash of creativity and experiences intriguing hot live performances. The outcome is impossible to predict. For myself I am curious to see how the dancing girls from Mrs K. B. (pictured above) will fight the renowned Puppetmastaz. The date of the show and the address after the jump.

The Train to Oz

photo: Svenja Klein

People have the tendency to feel threatened by marketing. Maybe not so much when marketing becomes a surprising pleasure and definately not at all when the  marketing object is not a big brand but an artistic project like a ballet. I was really surprised that our Berliner Staatsballett had the guts to just do something like a flash mob. In the conservative dance world this must be considered absolutely crazy. One hundred dancers from the company and from the ballet school gathered around  at Berlin Hauptbahnhof last Thursday and showed a little choreography of their upcoming ballet: OZ – The Wonderful Wizard. Even if there are for sure better flash mobs out there I liked the end of it very much when the station speakerphone announced the departure for the train to Oz. This is the kind of magic that gives me goosebumps. But maybe I just read too many Harry Potter books. The video of the flash mob and the date of the first show after the jump.

The Hardcore Week

This week is hardcore in many ways. A documentary festival movie (that’s hardcore if you prefer romcoms), a modern dance piece (that’s hardcore if you prefer going to the movies), a fashion fatwalk (no beauties and no skinny models here!), and a cabaret of art and hardcore fetish (that is hardcore probably for everyone…). The hardcore events (and some softcore as well) after the jump.
