How to host an unforgettable Dinner

How to host an unforgettable Dinner

One of the major aims we have here on the blog is to find ways for you to have an amazing time in Berlin. Regardless if you live here or if you are just visiting, we want you to make the most of this amazing city and have an unforgettable time here. With our guides and reviews we’re offering a lot of recommendations on what to do here – with our recent collaboration with Priceless® Berlin we have also introduced you to a whole new spectrum of unique experiences from culinary delights to fun adventures.

But what makes an experience really unique and unforgettable? It’s not really as easy as it sounds. We thought a lot about this, because we wanted to create our own “priceless” event for you. As the season of cosy nights at home and lovely holiday dinners is approaching we decided that we wanted to do something related to amazing food. So we sat down with someone who really knows something about excellent food: our Blogfabrik colleague Sophia Hoffmann, who recently published her second amazing cookbook “Vegan Queens”. Together we developed a dinner event of a different kind. “Harvest Muse” turned out to much more than just a dinner party. For the delight of our guests Sophia created something that could almost be described as an altar of the fruits of Autumn – a beautiful food installation that was first admired and photographed and than later devoured by the attendants. In a short interview Sophia explains how the idea came up and what other advice she can give to our readers on how to host an unforgettable dinner.

Good Drinks for Dark Autumn Days in Berlin

Good Drinks for Dark Autumn Days in Berlin

All Photos: Jacob Schickler

Adapting to the Berlin Winter can mean a lot of things. For me personally, Winter is not only about suffering absurd weather conditions but also to take the opportunity to learn new things. After all Summer in Berlin is way too distracting to do so.

But instead of going to Volkshochschule to a Photoshop course or taking a French class, this year I learned how to create some of the best Whiskey cocktails ever. Not bad, huh? One of the finest American Whiskey brands Woodford Reserve invited us to meet and learn from two bartending superstars. At Bar Convent Berlin we met one bartender from Le Titty Twister in Paris and one bartender from Herzog in Munich. They personally showed us how to create two of their favorite Whiskey drinks and we made notes for you to copy 😉

Especially in this dark month of the year I love Whiskey drinks with a tangerine scent. They give me a feeling of comfort, like sitting in front of a stove or a fireplace and listening to the sound of the wind outside making the trees rustle. Perfect for the rest of Autumn I would say. The whole recipes and many pictures  after the jump.

The Most Amazing Cake Makers of Berlin

The Most Amazing Cake Makers of Berlin

According to Tina Fey’s and Amy Poehler’s definition, cake is a fluffy dessert, that people usually eat on their birthdays, when they admit that they have aged. However silly it might sound, cakes can serve a lot of purposes at the same time: sometimes, they are baked to celebrate a certain occasion, whereas at times they are made to eat away our sorrow. When I personally see a beautifully decorated cake, it feels like my soul is smiling. You can imagine how long that feeling lasted when I bumped into the work of these gifted cake makers:

True Italian: Where to enjoy the best Italian Food in Berlin?

True Italian: Where to enjoy the best Italian Food in Berlin?

Food culture is nothing you are supposed to take lightly. Especially when you have Italian origins. Food is love, passion, dedication and joy. There is no better way to get closer to other human beings than sharing a meal and a good drink. When I was younger and living in a smaller town (in East Germany) a good meal was something I could only enjoyed at home (because restaurants in East Germany pretty much failed at that). When I moved to Berlin I discovered the diversity of the gastronomy here and I was especially surprised that I could enjoy so many authentic Italian meals so far away from the land of my origin (now I sound like a grandpa).

But let’s face the facts. Berlin is also full of places that are not authentic and not the best. Our friends and food lovers from Berlino Magazine did not stand the fact that there are so many wannabe Italian restaurants only serving the mediocre cliche dishes (Pizza, Pasta, Lasagne, you name it) and so many Berliners did not get to enjoy the real authentic and special recipes only Italians know and like. Italian food culture has such a variety of amazing dishes that deserve to be known and appreciated that they started the 72hrs True Italian Food Festival. Starting this Thursday September 28nd at 19h until Sunday evening October 1st 2017, over 50 Italian restaurants, pizzerias, wineries, bakeries and bars will offer their own specialties to all Berliners for just 7 EUR including a glass of wine.

Get a Taste of Mexico in Berlin

Get a Taste of Mexico in Berlin

It’s really hard to think outside the box of cliches and stereotypes when it comes to foreign countries you have never been to. When I think of Mexico, I instantly think of the unibrow of Frida Kahlo, Aztec pyramids and hot and spicy burritos. Of course Burritos, Quesadillas, Guacamole and Tacos are the first food associations coming to everyone’s mind regarding Mexico.

But behind every set of culinary cliches there are even more unexpected and delicious surprises. We had the chance to get an exclusive tour through the new food court exhibition at KaDeWe. Presenting all kind of Mexican ingredients and delicacies this food show taught us that there is more to the Mexican taste than just hot and spicy. Vanilla, Chocolate, Agave and many more essential products were discovered and developed in Mexico and I can’t even imagine a culinary world without all these ingredients.

You can visit the food show, take part at several tastings and product presentations and shop exclusive ingredient’s until the third of September in the 6th floor of KaDeWe. Just to give you a nice preview of what you can expect from this experience we took some pictures of some of the colorful and delicious products. Taste them with your own eyes after the jump 😉

Berlin 24/7: A Guide for Night Owls

Berlin 24/7: A Guide for Night Owls

photo: all.x

Having studied at another culturally forgettable -yet very beautiful in the summer – German town, I always thought that the main difference between living in the capital and living in a place, where breathing large amounts of non-polluted air almost didn’t feel right, was the night life. What differentiates Berlin from other smaller cities is not just its numerous wild parties, where the right drug combination can bring you to euphoric levels of happiness despite the insufferably monotonous beats and pull you into a life crisis the next day, while wondering how you managed to look like you already had a divorce and a few heart-attacks. Luckily, Berlin is so much more than that.

The main difference lies in the possibilities awaiting when the sunlight starts to dim and the city puts on a new outfit, less fancy but always stylish; not the let’s-have-a-reunion-at-the-cemetery-kind, but in a far more original way.

Blame it on your insomnia, your constantly unsatisfied desire to explore as many as layers of this city as possible, your biological needs, or simply your Fear Of Missing Out, Berlin is here to keep you company through the sleepless nights, when doing anything other than “sleeping, because I am working tomorrow” could feel just a little bit abnormal; to be your remedy. read more…
