Join the Jägermeister Wirtshaustour 2012!

photo: Sebastian Gabsch

Last year the Jägermeister Wirtshaustour rocked several cities in Germany with great acts such as Peaches, Who Made Who, We have Band, Totally Enormous Extint Dinosaurs and many more. This month the deer Jägis are back with a new tour. The first set of events will kick off next week on March 29 in Hamburg, going on to Berlin on March 30 and Dresden on March 31, 2012. For this tour they have put together a dubstep-electro line-up including Tek-One, Eskimo Callboy and Dumme Jungs. The Berlin electro party crowd will for sure enjoy this line-up!

What makes the Jägermeister Wirtshaustour so special is not only the choice of music acts but also the unique atmosphere that is created with love in the old pubs and clubs the concerts are taking place in. Experience the original “Wirtshaus” feeling with traditional pub decor, pool, darts and ping-pong. And not to forget, there’s gonna be a lot of Jägi! After the jump we’ll present you the new line-up, some impressions from last year’s tour and the details about the new one.

Hannes Smith “Herzsprung”

It has never easier to produce electronic music than today. Thanks to software such as Ableton, everyone can put together a track within seconds. The result of that: hundreds of releases each week, and most of them are rather dull and boring. In fact, the number of artists in electronic music that are somehow outstanding and exceptional is quite limited.

One of those artists is Hannes Smith. He developed his own and unique style: his music is romantic, melancholic and full of melody. Even though you might not hear it at Berghain at 6am in the morning, it is perfect for the dance floor. Check out the music after the jump and take your chance to win a free download of Hannes Smith’s latest EP, Herzsprung.

Kin – A new Iamamiwhoami Story

It has been a while since we last heard about the Swedish music project Iamamiwhoami. In 2009 and 2010 she captured us with her first appearance, the mysterious story and her amazing music videos and songs. After a little break she is back with a new story – a new era. After a short teaser in the beginning of the month was released we now have a whole new music video and a great song with the title Sever. In this new story the protagonist of the project, musician Jonna Lee, is no longer in disguise. No more big eye lashes, costumes and mysterious settings. We now see the singer only in her underwear, no make-up in an empty appartment. The only mysterious element of the new video is the big hairy flatmate… An album with the title Kin is coming out in June, 2012. The next video will be released on Febuary 29. Check out the latest video Sever after the jump.

Die Antwoord – the supreme ugly

The time of pretty popstars is over, darlings. Die Antwoord, the South African art and trash collective, are back with a new album “TEN$ION”.  I was first disgustated, then amused and now I am thrilled by the way they look, they act and they sound. Is ugly the new glamourous? I am not talking about being ugly in a trashy or natural way. I am talking about being really really ugly. Lana del Rey beeing on the cover of British Vogue portraying a plastic surgery monster instead of a real Vouge beauty is another example of this trend. However, with Die Antwoord I have the feeling that uglyness has a new shape. Being an abomination of human kind instead of the perfection we always aspire.  Well, I am really interested how this trend is going to continue. Watch the new videos of Die Antwoord after the jump.

David Bowie in Berlin

David Bowie’s Berlin period became a myth of this city: In 1976, the Thin White Duke moved together with Iggy Pop in an apartment in Schöneberg. During the following months, Bowie recorded three of his most important albums here: the “Berlin Triology”, which also includes his maybe most beautiful song, “Heroes”. But David Bowie not only played music in Berlin. He and Iggy Pop also enjoyed the culture and the night life of the city – meaning: doing all kinds of drugs and having all kind of sex.

Tobias Rüther, editor at “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”, has written an amazing book about Bowie’s Berlin period. In “Helden”, Rüther not tells all the anecdotes and biographical stories, he also analyzes how the culture of Berlin influenced David Bowie’s music. More about that in an interview with Tobias Rüther after the jump.

Fusion Festival 2012: Only 145 more days to go

Photos: Jens Wernscheid

Now, in the coldest time of the year, the next summer, and the next Fusion Festival, seems very far away. With temperatures dropping down to -20° and the city covered in snow, the idea of dancing in the sun is quite hard to imagine. But there are “just” 145 more days to go until the next Fusion starts! To celebrate this countdown, here are some picture from the Fusion Festival 2010.

In the mood for Nicolas Jaar

We are often following the hypes of people we like. We follow the recommendations of our friends and enjoy things they like to do because in the end everything can be good and bad depending of your perspective. I heard so many beautiful stories of Nicolas Jaar concerts of people I trust blindly in their taste of music that I wanted to go in any case to the concert he was giving on Monday at Berghain. In the end I was a little disapointed. Not because it was bad, but just because it couldn’t measure up with the hype my friends build around it. For people who are less susceptible as I am I recommend definetly to check out one of his concerts for example tonight at Berghain.
