Watergate Berlin

photo: Watergate

With techno it is like any other kind of youth culture: Most books that have been written about it are horrible. There are only very few exceptions. So check out our selection of the books about techno after the jump (German only, as the books are also German).

Woodkid at the Electronic Beats Festival in Prague

Woodkid

Next week I am going on a blogger trip to Prague. The guys from Mit Vergnügen were so kind to invite us along with fellow bloggers from Travelettes, LaJessie, Amy&Pink, This Is Jane Wayne and a few more to visit the Electronic Beats festival on May 5th, with concerts of The Whites Boy Alive, Grimes and Woodkid, as well as a DJ set from Mike Skinner from The Streets. I am especially excited to see Woodkid again, his concert at Festsaal Kreuzberg a while ago was amazing and I’m psyched to hear the new songs from his upcoming debut album The Golden Age. The details about the festival after the jump.

Listening to music with Dapayk & Padberg

Dapayk-Padberg

When models turn into musicians, the outcome is rather horrible in most cases. Eva Padberg is different. For more than six years she has been performing together with her husband Dapayk. In 2008, the Noze remix of their song Island became a huge hit. Just recently Dapayk & Padberg released their third album Sweet Nothings on Stil vor Talent.

In our interview with Dapayk & Padberg, we asked them about music by Michel Teló, The Black Keys, Serge Gainsbourg and Frivolous. More after the jump.

90 Annoying Minutes with Marilyn

my-week-with-marilyn

As I mentioned two weeks ago: I have been looking forward to seeing My Week with Marilyn since I heard about the project it in fall 2010. So of course I went and watched it right away when it was released last week. Unfortunately it wasn’t quite what I had expected. My review of the film, as well as some more film recommendations after the jump.

Cinéma de Mode: Ember – A Fashion Horror Film

ember

I found this exciting fashion film in the brand new fashion film section of Not Just A Label. It seems to me, that directors Marcin Kempski and Maciek Dąbrowski have set foot on a new genre: Fashion Horror Movies. Their film Ember for the label Konrad Parol is inspired by one of the most gruesome scenes in The Silence Of The Lambs, and it really is as creepy as the Hollywood movie. Get your scare after the jump.

Win tickets for Willy Moon’s concert at Berghain

Willy Moon, Berghain, Berlin

The rock’n'roll of the early sixties, Film Noir, Bo Diddley, dubstep, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Afrika Bambaataa and The Ramones: one would never guess that there is anything that these artists and aesthetics have in common. Willy Moon, a 21 year old newcomer from New Zealand, managed to combine all these influences in his music, which can be described as neo rock’n'roll. On Monday, April 23, he plays his first concert in Germany at the Berghain – which is not the worst location for a debut. Check out the music after the jump and take your chance to win two tickets for the show.

Camp/Anti-Camp: A Queer Guide to Everyday Life

VOLUPTUOUS HORROR

Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black

Berlins subculture has an open position to the term Camp. Our party pictures prove to you that there is no city with more kitchy crazyness then Berlin. How nice that there is finally a festival bringing big parts of North American and Canadian Camp and Queer Life experts into town. The Hebbel am Ufer hosts a three day multidisciplinary festival called Camp/Anti-Camp: A Queer Guide to Everyday Life that you  should not miss. The whole program, some really dirty videos and some images after the jump.

Martha Marcy May Marlene!

martha-marcy-may-marlene

Martha Marcy May Marlene. Who remembers this title correctly at the cinema cashier really deserves free admission. But the film is a small treat itself, especially Elizabeth Olsen (jepp she’s Mary-Kate and Ashleys little sister) gives a stunning performance!
