Berlin’s Cemeteries

I always liked cemeteries. Don’t get me wrong. I have never been into Gothic, and I always hated Patchouli. But I just like cemeteries for the romantic, beautiful and quite atmosphere. Every time I go to Paris I visit the Père Lachaise. Not only to pay my respect to Jim, but also to see all the other beautiful graves. However, you don’t have to go to Paris to see romantic mausoleums or melancholic angels. Berlin has some remarkable cemeteries as well. More ofter the jump.

A History of Hipster Mockery

The Hipster Jr, Sugarhigh

The cute little video by the Polyeyed Phantom that has been making the rounds on the interdolly in the past few days has once again restarted the discussion about the oh-so-hated, yet oh-so-admired stereotype of the hipster. Although this debate seems a bit out-dated, the video Der Berliner Hipster summerizes quite accurately some of the clichées-gone-real of said stereotype. Especially interesting I find the funny and partially quite strong reactions of people on facebook and blog comments, my favorite one being: “They’re called Lana del Ray fans these days…” Haha!

But why on earth do hipsters deserve so much mockery I wonder? They wear certain fashion, they like certain music and books, they go to certain parties. Don’t we all? We just might not all look as good doing it… So far there have been so many different outlets of ridicule or even hatred against this particularily fashionable kind. Along with the brand new lecture video I have collected some of the most notable ones of recent years for you after the jump.

Bloggers Against AIDS Charity Auction

Blogger Against AIDS Aktion

Tomorrow is World AIDS Day and our fellow blogger Mauri has started the campaign Bloggers Against AIDS together with many other bloggers to raise money for the HIV charity Deutsche AIDS Hilfe. Every participating blogger is auctioning something off and all the proceeds of these auctions will be donated to the charity. Check out Mauri’s blog for all the auctions going on. I was really impressed that a young guy such as Mauri would dedicate himself to a serious cause like this. There still is so much unawareness about AIDS and safer sex, even in developed countries such as Germany.

We are also auctioning something off for this campaign. We took a shirt from Violent Elegance and customized it a bit. We also added something else to the auction package, take a closer look after the jump.

Thanks to the Catholics…

photos: David Lachapelle

Today everybody is protesting against the glamour version of Santa Claus: the Pope. But why? Why not protesting against the Catholic church the whole year? Why choosing one day to protest if there should be so much more active continuate protest? Perhaps because in the end we are so in love with the style and the looks of the Catholic church. (For all the haters: this was cynical)! Well, I am in love with the David Lachapelle campaign  he shot for the french TV show Borgia. (Found on Fubiz). More pics of it after the jump.

smart urban stage Frankfurt – the Party

Imagine a trip to the land of the future. Where a princess plants trees, lamps are enlighted by the wind, streets are painted in joyful colors by millions of childrens and supermarkets are places where people come together to share food and love. These are just a few of the participating projects of the smart future minds award that took place in the 12th and final smart urban stage in Frankfurt.

We had an incredible experience getting to know the people behind these projects and meeting bloggers from all over Europe. We were really moved by the spirit of the heartfelt responsabilty for a better future. We were happy and proud to be part of the smart urban stage project right up from the start here in Berlin until its culmination in Frankfurt. The first prize went to The People’s Supermarket from London: A supermarket serving as a transparent food supplier and a meeting place for the local community.

After the jump you’ll find our photos from the event and after party and the list of amazing bloggers we met on the smart urban stage.

Rise and Shine!

DaWanda

Sommer 2011 did not take place. The last weeks were the exact opposite of what you think of when you hear the word „Summer“.

Well, at least we had a great Spring. The sun was shining, and everyone was expecting a great Summer. Here are some pictures from a sunny day in April, a trip to Werder in Brandenburg. The photos were taken at the „Baumblütenfest“ (cherry blossom festival) in Werder, which takes place every year. It is quite cheesy, but if you just go out into the nature on your own, you will have a great time. By the way: these pictures were taken for the label „Rise and Shine.“ More of them after the jump.
