The rain is back, how have we missed it… Once again you can’t really go to any open air club, lake trip, park chilling with this horrendous weather. That’s way I searched for 10 umbrellas which perhaps are not making the rain go away but for sure give you a lot of fun with it. Check it out after the jump.

So there is a tent flying over town in the style of the movie Up! Guerilla marketing all up in the air. I think the last term is they key to what this is probably all about. Smart and cute!

Maybe some of you can remember the column „Auf die Zwölf“, which was part of the Berghain flyer form 2004 until 2006. These short stories are legendary. In “Auf die Zwölf”, Anton Waldt – today the chief editor of De:Bug – deals with the clichés of the techno scene in an ironical and charming way.
Now these short stories have been published as a book by Verbrecher Verlag. Read more about it in the German version of this article.

With this wonderful weather there is one thing people from the city are craving for: A picknick outside in nature. The ecoShowroom at Almstadtstraße is organizing exactly that. Together with the Möbelwerkstadt Werder they are inviting to a Bio Picknick and a walk through the woods at the Ribbecker Forst on June 19th 2011. At the picknick you will be able to try and taste the products available at the ecoShowroom. During the walk through the forest you will learn more about sustainability of forestry. You can still register for the little tour until Monday June 6th. Learn more about it at the website of the ecoShowroom.

The BBQ season has officially kicked off and now the Sunday morning run through the Volkspark Friedrichshain will be like jogging over a burning battlefield again with all the abandoned one-way-grills still smoking from the day before. But with all the little BBQ parties we will be attending in the following months one thing will be very clear again: people on the grill have no idea what they are actually doing. There will be more dull sausages and burned meat then one can eat.
For that reason I recommend every ambitious BBQ enthusiast to take part in one of the four fabulous BBQ workshops at Fortuna’s Feast in Neukölln. They are happening on this and next weekend. Not only will you learn how to grill different types of meat and fish appropriatly, you will also make marinades and sauces which you can bottle up and take home. Yummy! Details after the jump.

On Tuesday I took a trip to the far far West and visited the MINI Photo Box at Ku’damm corner of Joachimstaler Strasse to check out how this whole photobooth-to-video-screen affair is coming along that I introduced to you a few days ago. Until May 29 you have the chance to take your photo and have it transmitted to the biggest video billboard in Germany which is right across the street. It was nice to see how old and young (and even dogs) were curious to try out the whole thing and wait with great anticipation for their image to appear on the big screen. I’m sure all these photos of video screens of photos will have caused some loops and malfunctions in the Matrix… Of course I also had to try it out. Some impressions after the jump.

One of the must-haves for people who come to Berlin is that little black and white strip of photos from one of those old fashioned photo automats that you find in certain hotspots in the city. I’m sure almost everyone of you has one, may it be from Warschauer Str., Kastanienallee or Bar25. But as these pseudo-vintage photos have become so overly popular, it’s time to go one step further. Think BIG! Imagine your automat photo being transmitted live to the biggest video billboard in Germany! How is that for a souvenir, huh? And on top of those few minutes of city-wide fame you even have the chance to win your favorite brand new MINI car. Intrigued? Then look after the jump to find out more.

Odette Annable for Vice
After the guys from Vice Magazine already climbed on top of the Teufelsberg with their Palladium boots they have now sent out American actress Odette Annable into the wild to discover some hidden gems in Berlin’s picturesque little suburb: Los Angeles. Equipped with the cool footwear she visited overlooked towers, an old brewery, a historic hotel and a few more exciting places. I love these kind of old abandoned places and we have quite a lot of them here in and around Berlin. So it’s interesting to see the same kind of places in a city like L.A. that couldn’t be any more different from Berlin. Watch a video of the little excursion with Odette after the jump.

Creativity in Berlin seems something of a minimum requirement to be allowed into the city. But how to successfully make money with creativity does not appear in the Berlin brochures that are handed out at the city gates. Luckily, there are some creative people who just want to help out with this matter. This also includes the makers of Creative City Berlin. This great and useful online community showcases artists and members of creative professions. It provides information on support programs, start-ups, studio assignment, training, scholarships and many other issues. For artists and entrepreneurs who are new in town or who are planning to move to the city the website will provide a first orientation and serves as a networking community. Artists and creative people can ask questions directly to the page, which will be answered by the editors or will be forwarded to the right person in the Berlin institutions. As we also try to help other people with many of the above tasks, it is good news to us, that there finally is platform that deals specifically with the problems of the creative scene in Berlin. You will find more information about Creative City Berlin here.

Every year again, Berlin becomes one of the most beautiful cities in the world as soon as spring starts. The whole city seems to celebrate the end of winter. As everyone knows, the Berlin winter can be really unbearable: it gets ridiculously cold, you may not get to see the sun for days and there is a Siberian wind blowing. People are even worse tempered than they are for the rest of the year and you only leave your apartment if you really have to.
I have always dreamed about escaping the Berlin winter. In the past months, I finally managed to make this dream come true by going to Southeast Asia for five months. From November to March, I traveled Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.
For no doubt, the most interesting country among those was Myanmar, the former Burma. You can not imagine a place that is more different to Berlin. When you go to Myanmar, you somehow have the feeling of traveling in time. More after the jump.
