Meeting the Designers for Tomorrow

irene_luft3

Irene Luft

A few weeks ago I was invited by Peek&Cloppenburg to interview one of the finalists of the next Designer for Tomorrow Award. I was more than thrilled because I’m a big fan of this project. The designers that were presenting last summer were all really amazing and the winner, Sam Frenzeln, is to me one of the most promissing designers from Berlin. So of course I am looking forward to the 8 designers of the next fashion show that is going to take place in early July. Of course I was not the only blogger who got invited: Lisa from La Lila, Jessie from Les Mads, Judith from What’s wrong with the zoo, Katharina from I♥Ponys Mag, Mahret from Fnart, Mary from Quite Contrary and David from Dandy Diary where the interview partners of the other seven contestants.

Coincedently, the designer I picked was Irene Luft, who we already wrote about here a while ago. You can check out my video interview with her over at the DfT blog. A group photo of the designers and the bloggers after the jump.

Manchmal loof dit, manchmal nich…

4a

If you try to remember a really good party, there is one problem: most of the time you can’t remember anything. If I try to remember to best parties of the past months, I can at least recall that David Dorad was playing there. In an interview, the Berlin based DJ tells us which of his
performances he won’t forget.

Turmspringer

ts2

I can’t recall when and where I saw Turmspringer for first time. Presumably, it was at the Golden Gate. Since then I have experienced them quite often at this and at other venues. At some point it became clear to me that if Turmspringer is playing at a party, it can’t be a bad party. More information and an interview with Edgar Peng (Robert) and Didier de la Boutique (Tim) after the click.

If you want to see Turmspringer performing, you shouldn’t miss Fuck me now and love me later on April 17 at Arena Club.

Helene, her Axolotl and me at Tresor!

dsc_0077

Honestly, I didn’t want to got there. To the new Tresor. It would be sad, so very very sad, visiting a club that was part of your teenager life, a place where you spend endless nights, met friends for one night or longer. Some did stay, some of them I never saw again. All these memories..The last time I went to the old Tresor, I felt so weird, like a freak. The people had changed so much, they all seem to look the same and they didn’t like my looks, I could tell that. Too alternative to them. Where did all the good people go? The tolerant people I was used to hang out with, the people from the early days. Or was it me who had changed? I couldn’t figure out. However, when I was invited to the Axolotl Roadkill event, I thought I should have a look, I mean, after all these years..Axolotl Roadkill is a bestseller, written by the talented director-daughter Helene Hegemann, when she was only aged 16! Since our dear colleague and founder of this blog has his birthday today ( and left us alone in order to go to Barcelona, probably to meet some Spanish hotties ) yesterday evening  some of his friends met for a little drink and delicious sweets like Barcomi’s cheesecake at Neu Bar, Greifswalderstr.  I took one or two pics with my little camera for you to watch after the jump:

photos: Sandy Kim

If you are just like me looking for an antidote to the cold weather outside, check out the pictures of photographer Sandy Kim. Sandy Kim is based in San Francisco, her pictures appear in magazines such as Vice and Magic – Revue Pop Moderne, and if I look at her photos right now, I just have one wish: to be right there, in sunny San Francisco, on a party with these very people.

Check out a tiny interview and a selection of her wonderful photos after the jump.

Gisi – Queen of Friedrichshain

3

When I’m observing tourists in the city I always wonder what they are really looking for. Because Berlin is not really known for its monuments or avenues or sights . Even clubs, theaters or gallerys are not the real essence of the city. What makes this city so unique ist the people who live here. As declamatory this may sound. And Berlin is not just made of the hipster crowd consisting of young, lost and indestructible single girls and boys (even if this blog sometimes give this impression). Berlin is full of normal people who live their life like everybody else. Yes, it’s true that in Berlin there are a lot of hungry artists and foreigners and even some rich bitches. Berlin has all the varieties and the similarities of a big city. Berlin has the extreme and the normal meeting at every street corner without even noticing each other. And Berlin has Gisi. So if you posses a little bit of German skills you should not miss to meet Gisi just after the jump.
