The Experimental Week

Anna-Maria Sommer

This week is on the one hand dominated by all the events related to the 11th Club Transmediale festival for electronic and experimental music and on the other with a handful of very promising looking exhibitions opening. But before we go all artsy and experimental on your ass, we’ll kick off the week with a lot of fun at Cinéma with the It Boys… The events after the jump.

Monday

Your Monday’s Hip-Hop and Pop night Cinéma will get some very special co-hosts this week. The It Boys will have a few sets and of course a few shrill outfits as well. HBC Kino, Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 9, 22h.

The Club Transmediale Festival for experimental and electronic music will kick off  in various venues spread out over Kreuzberg and Mitte.  On Monday evening at 20h it will all start with the opening concert at HAU 1, Stresemannstraße 29. It is a bit too much actually to write about it here so I recommend to check out their website for more infos. But to name just a few highlights look out for Siriusmo at Maria on Saturday and Green Velvet on Sunday at Berghain.

Tuesday

On Tuesday there will be an actual cinema screening in the HBC Kino. The Mobile Kino brings you Pi one of the cult classics by Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan). HBC Kino, Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 9, 20h.

Wednesday

Movie Night at Sing Blackbird, Sanderstr. 11, with A Swedish Love Story. Starts at 19:30h.

Thursday

West Berlin Gallery opens a big new group exhibition with street artists such as Alias, Prost, Linda’s Ex, SP38 and many more. Beyond Good And Evil will have it’s opening party at 19h. Brunnenstr. 56. Open until Febuary 26, 2011.

Gallery OPEN is presenting the first solo exhibition of Berlin-based artist Jens Heller. His painting techniques are quite baroque, but the themes he shows in his work look very modern, intimate and a bit absurd. Interesting! Legiendamm 18-20, 21h. Exhibition open until March 19th, 2011.

Friday

At Janine Bean gallery there is a very interesting group exhibition being opened at 18h. WANTED combines paintings, sculptures, mixed media and video installations. At the opening there will also be a performance of the stunningly beautiful Anna-Maria Sommer. Torstr. 154. Until March 19.

I have been looking forward to this exhibition for a while now. The Strychnin Gallery is opening a very special exhibition inspired by the Mad Hater. The Mad Potters Tea Party is a collaboration with kitchenwear brand The New English and all artists created work either on or related to pots and cups and saucers. Boxhagener Str. 36, 19h.

Stattbad Wedding is presenting a interactive media installation in their Stattmedia event on Friday starting at 22h. Gerichtstr. 65.

Saturday

Accidently already announced for last weekend the WMP! Fashion Fleamarket is happening at .HBC at Saturday the 5th of Febuary, Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 9, from 13-18h. Free entry!

Alternatively there is a small flea market in the café and bar Bistrot at Linienstr. 136. Here you can not only buy but also swap your goods. Starts at 12h.
