The Weekly Event Guide

This week we are getting a little appetizer of Fashion Week with multiple events by the ESMOS design school. Also, you’ll see writers in a death match, you can celebrate the Midsommar (or the Fête de la Musique), have a look at the New Order exhibition or go into a war with your cardboard sword. Our events recommendations after the jump.

Tuesday, Jun 19

Photographer Tina Winkhaus opens her exhibition It’s All Shitty at 19h. Find out how shitty it really is at Brunnenstr. 22.

The international cabaret that is the Literary Death Match has it’s first stint in Berlin today at HBC. The night will feature a series of readings by poets and novelists that will then be judged by the likes of Sharmaine Lovegrove from Dialogue Books, do-it-all smarty-pants Nadja Sayej from Artstars* and Alonso Domingues from Sugarhigh. Doors open at 20h, Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 9.

After their graduates fashion show at Huttenstr. 50 at 21h (invite only) the ESMOD School of Design in Berlin is hosting the official ESMOD After Show Party at Picknick, Dorotheenstr. 90, at 22:30h.

Wednesday, Jun 20

Mindpirates presents an outdoor screening of Michal Kosakowski’s movie Zero Killed at Schlesische Strasse 38 starting at 22:30h.

Thursday, Jun 21

Nordic by Nature and NORR Magazine are celebrating the Midsommar today with live music by Nelson Can, Berndsen, Husky Rescue and Azure Blue and many DJs at Flamingo, Kleine Präsidentenstr., starting 17h outdoors and for free and going inside around 22h (8EUR).

The Fête de la Musique takes place today in countless locations and with countless concerts. My iHeart cowriter Claudio recommends the stages at Görlitzer Bahnhof, where they play mostly electro pop music. If you want to get an overview of all the stages in town, take a look at this map.

The HBC at Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 9 opens New Order, an exhibition with the work of Peter Seville and Kevin Cummins. It’s open to the public from June 21 til July 4th 2012 from 18-23h (Tue-Sat).

Cherry-O-Kie, the queer Karaoke night at Südblock, Admiralsstr. 1-2, with special guests Daniel Wang and Alexander Geist. Starts at 22h.

Friday, Jun 22

For those of you who couldn’t get a ticket for the ESMOD show you still have a chance to see the graduate’s collections of this year by going to the showroom and open house of the ESMOD school this Friday from 12-17h, Görlitzer Str. 51.

Germany against Greece, a game of epic proportions. Where will you watch it? Maybe at the Studio B hosted by Mono.Kultur, at Spandauer Str. 2, or around the corner at HBC, Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 2, or maybe in Kreuzberg at Backyard, Gitschiner Str. 22, or maybe at Merkezi at Kotti, Adalbertstr. 5/6. Or maybe at the Indian place around the corner…

Saturday, Jun 23

If you ever felt like screaming “THIS IS SPARTA!!!” in your life, this event is just the right thing for you. At the Box Wars you will get the chance to build your own weapons and armor from cardboard and get into the biggest fight since the annual vegetable battle at the Oberbaumbrücke. The weapon workshop starts at 14h and the war starts at 19h at Mindpirates, Schlesische Str. 38.
