All Eyes on Eliot Sumner

I think it’s a wonderful thing when (almost) forgotten artists spit out new incredible music. This time around I’m talking about Eliot Sumner. If you know anything about this musical prodigy you’re already aware that she’s not just an ordinary pop-star. If you haven’t heard yet of her, now would be a good time. Eliot is not only the daughter of Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, a.k.a. Sting, but a singular talent worth exploring who is bringing a whole new meaning to pop and rock music with her new EP Information, and most importantly, an incredible music experience to Berlin! More about it after the jump.

Going back all the way to 2010, Eliot reached the top charts as the former frontwoman of the band I Blame Coco, with the debut album The Constant which included the electro-pop jams “Quicker”, “Selfmachine” and “Caeser” feat. Robyn. After almost four years, she’s now back with new music, this time under her birth name Eliot Sumner and she seems more than ready to continue her shift towards the darker side of pop. Her brand new EP Information dropped last month, in August, and it is an exceptional mash-up of electro rock and synth melodies.  Her voice is more dramatic than ever and though she is still retaining her crisp and melodic electro-pop the EP is definitely bringing her music to another level.

Information hasn’t really left much room for doubt about the strength of her upcoming album, which will be released sometime next year. Between the songs “Information”, “Come Friday” and “Woobler” she has shown that she’s capable of producing material just as great, if not greater, than the former I Blame Coco albums. Though “Selfmachine” remains my firm favourite of hers, her new EP is indeed a real grower, and it is by far definitely one of the best albums I’ve heard in a long time. My favourite track on the work is “Come Friday” – it gets me every time and it’s undoubtedly that one song you can’t afford to skip! Give her a listen here below (I’m sure you won’t be disappointed).

Now, before finding out more of her awesomeness next Tuesday (September 16), as she is performing songs from her new EP at Grüner Salon here in Berlin (there’s just a handful of tickets still available HERE!), watch the music video for “Information”, a stormy and intense video for a song that will draw you in and give you a taste of what you can expect from this incredible singer!
