Wireless Stereo Speakers by Raumfeld from Berlin

When you put me in a room with technology, Freedom isn’t the first word that comes to mind; especially considering my comfort zone doesn’t extend much further than my laptop and DSLR. However, when I heard of the new Berlin-based audio company Raumfeld, I was intrigued by their wireless concept, sleek design and amazing sound quality. I first spotted a few sets of Raumfeld speakers at a Berlin Fashion Week show, perfectly balancing out the avant-garde aesthetic with their Bauhaus-inspired minimal design. So when Frank and I tried out a set of their Stereo M: Raumfeld speakers in his apartment I was a little intimidated by these purist-chic devices, but within minutes, I was blown away. Click on to see how these speakers truly live up to their slogan “Be Free” and find out how to win one of these treasures.

Raumfeld units can all be operated through their app from a smartphone or tablet, and it really is as easy as it sounds. The units just need to connect to a router for the initial setup, which takes a few minutes, and you’re all set. The sound that fills the room is confident, clean and exalted, without a trace of effort or aggression when the volume is raised, and the tone plays clear and strong, but never exaggerated.

And what were my roommates and I to do with the addition of incredible new speakers in an otherwise empty apartment? The answer was clear: we had to throw a party and put them to the test. Even with our apartment stuffed to the brim, I didn’t keep the volume up at its highest (for the sake of everyone’s eardrums and our beloved elderly neighbours). Thankfully, I was able to control them from an iPad tucked away in my bedroom and a consistently smooth, clear sound filled the apartment all night.

The brand also distinguishes itself with uncompromised multi-room music streaming, and you have well over 20 million titles to choose from out of streaming services such as Spotify, TuneIn and WiMP, plus the freedom to control the sound as long as you’re connected to either your home WiFi or a Raumfeld base, regardless of where you are. The former Berlin startup took this into consideration when making their decision to operate through WiFi rather than Bluetooth, which wouldn’t have allowed for the user to control them more than a few feet away.

Now call me old fashioned, but what thrilled me the most was hooking the units up to a record player, and hearing notes I didn’t know existed on my favourite vinyls. Turns out that the German sound engineering used by Raumfeld actually puts their speakers’ precision and tuning on par with much more expensive studio equipment, which make these guys pretty hard to rival.
