A Bike Tour through Kreuzberg with a Barista

A Bike Tour through Kreuzberg with a Barista

There are so many stories written about Berlin: a city of inspiration, creativity, lost and found spirit, art and music, crazy dance floor love fairytales and never ending discoveries. In the end, every story reflects its personal angle and puts a different color pallet to fill the page. Berlin is made of many different routes – so let’s ride.

Getting into the streets by a city bike, having a cup of beautiful coffee on the way, observing the people in the streets, having spontaneous chats and exploring the local cafes and restaurants sounds like a perfect idyll of a day in Berlin.

For our brand new guide we got together with the charming Edoardo, head barista of Refinery High End Coffee in Mitte and Kreuzberg, and teamed up with Creme Cycles and the bikecitizens app to create a bike tour that unites the spirits of Berlin, delicious coffee and beautiful bikes.

Our tour starts in the most beloved and diverse districts of Berlin: “Kreuzberg is purely bizarre: you never know what to expect from the people, it’s ever changing and there is always something odd to discover,” says Edo before we start our tour…

Monti Caffe’ Bar – A True Italian Restaurant in Friedrichshain

Monti Caffe’ Bar – A True Italian Restaurant in Friedrichshain

Already in its second edition, the True Italian Festival of authentic Italian cuisine stormed the city last weekend with over 50 locations to explore. Organized by our friends from Berlino Magazine their goal is to promote Italian dishes that are not so famous in Germany. The great deal about this festival is: You get a unique specialty and a drink all for the special price of 7 Euros. Sounds good right?

This year we decided to have a special look at a cute little restaurant and breakfast place in Friedrichshain. Monti Caffe’ Bar offers a selection of Italian pasta dishes and international cakes and breakfast options. It’s definitely not the typical kitschy Italian restaurant with odd interior choices you might know from your holiday. Instead, Monti is more like a cool urban spot with clear influences of playful Italian design mixed with Berlin elements like concrete and steel details. Check out the address, opening times and some pictures after the jump. read more…

A Guide to a Real Berlin Afterhour

A Guide to a Real Berlin Afterhour

Nothing compares to a true Berlin party night. But, every night has to come to an end, …or does it? Sometimes, all you want to do is keep on going, stay with your friends, have another beer and just live the moment, and why not right? Yes, everyone else might go to sleep, and maybe your grandma might not approve but if there is one city that allows us, even urges us not to conform to normal people’s bedtimes, it’s Berlin. Instead of seeing it as social misbehaving you should see the early morning hours as a land full of opportunity. In order to inspire you and your personal Berlin afterhour, we gathered some ideas in collaboration with Carlsberg and their #rightbeerrightnow campaign. The whole campaign is about celebrating friendship and to overcome the normality of everyday life by sharing special moments with your inner circle.  The beer brand from Copenhagen has a long history of supporting a creative nightlife culture all over the world. We had a great time to explore with them Berlin in the early morning hours and hope you will do too.

Prinzessinengärten Berlin: An Urban Oasis of Berlin

Prinzessinengärten Berlin: An Urban Oasis of Berlin

At a time when financial profit is all that cities are driven by, the Prinzessinnengärten seem to be a green oasis that gives us hope that, as long as there are active people creating such projects, the future might not be so bleak. Nomadisch Grün (Nomadic Green) launched Prinzessinnengärten (Princess gardens) as a pilot project in the summer of 2009 at Moritzplatz in Berlin Kreuzberg, a site which had been a wasteland for over half a century. Along with friends, activists and neighbors, the group cleared away rubbish, built transportable organic vegetable plots and reaped the first fruits of their labour.

The ultimate idea behind this project is for all unused spaces in cities to be turned to green urban farming spaces where locals produce their own healthy food. In this way, the microclimate would be better, there would be less CO2, and the biological diversity would increase. This project promotes community and aspires to be a place where a new style of urban living can emerge, where people can work together, relax, communicate and enjoy locally produced vegetables. Since more and more people are living in cities than rural areas, it becomes important that there is change towards a more sustainable way of living, eating and moving.

Refinery High End Coffee Bar & Retail Store in Berlin

Refinery High End Coffee Bar & Retail Store in Berlin

Refinery High End Coffee, the international, multi-roaster specialty coffee bar that we love for a ton of reasons (also featured in our coffee guide), gave us one more by opening a retail store as well.

Tansel and Bora opened Refinery in Berlin in 2015, and with it they introduced us to an excellent coffee experience; since then, their cafe near Friedrichstrasse has become a locals and visitors’ favourite. Focused on the highest quality coffee from all over the world (currently serving Norway’s beloved Tim Wendelboe), it also offers amazing seasonal dishes, savory and sweet.

Your Berghain-style Black Ice Cream

Your Berghain-style Black Ice Cream

If you were asked to imagine Berlin as an ice cream, what image would you have for it? Exactly. Full-on hardcore, All-black-everything, seemingly unapproachable, but actually tasting the sweetest. This idea of putting Berghain-friendly ice cream into a cone was realized by Black Poodle Ice Cream Club on Schlesische Straße back in 2017, and we couldn’t contain ourselves – we actually can’t wait to match it with our outfit while waiting in that long queue.

Now in 2018, we had to notice that the Black Poodle had disappeared and the place was suddenly Vanille & Marille – a beloved local ice cream chain. Our fear that this amazing black ice cream had vanished was luckily not confirmed as Vanille & Marille still offer this flavor, yeay!

If you stroll around Schlesi, do NOT miss out on trying this super tasty AND stylish ice cream. I guarantee it’ll become your favorite!
