A new event series at Staatsoper Berlin connects classic with electronic music and features thought-leading climate scientists for a new genre-bending format.

Not everything we cook up in our iHeartBerlin-creative kitchen is always loud, bold, and edgy. Some projects are more about the fine details and the quiet sidenotes, yet turn out to be extremely powerful.

So it happened that last week we premiered with our first creative and curational collaboration with Staatsoper Unter den Linden. The event series that we proudly call “Sustainable Listening” wants to connect science with music and bring scientists fighting climate justice for the next generations onto the stage of the opera house.

The Essential Berlin Dance Floor Playlist

The Essential Berlin Dance Floor Playlist

Electronic music seems to pulsate through Berlin’s veins like a never-ending energy flow. A rhythm that has been pushing the city and its people forward for decades, four-to-the-floor, one bass drum at a time. Berlin is a place where raves are endless, where nights become days, and you can lose yourself between beats and lights. Often, the music on the dance floor becomes an energetic swirl. And, already the next day, we forget what the DJ made us move our bodies to all night. What we do know is: We were living for it!

iHeartBerlin to the rescue! Luckily, we are pure dance floor enthusiasts who can’t get enough of House, Techno and everything in between. In the last years, we have spent some time dancing, listening, researching and, with the help of some useful mobile applications, we curated a list of tunes that have fired up many Berlin dancefloors night after night. So, here is a selection of 40 timeless evergreens, recent dance floor hits, and aspiring newcomers – a four-hour pre or post party delight for all electronic music lovers. Enjoy the trip.

Do you want to go to Lollapalooza with us?

Do you want to go to Lollapalooza with us?

Lolla is back! After half of Berlin celebrated inside the green forests of Treptower Park last year, the Lollapalooza festival is once again unfolding in the green, but this year in a new location: The Hoppegarten racecourse. On the 9th and 10th of September it’s time again, to sing, dance and enjoy music.

As we loved the experience so much last year, Lolla’s official partner Absolut invited us once more to be a part of the third Lolla Berlin experience. Only a S-Bahn ride away from the city center we can easily enjoy our beloved shower at home and sleep in our cozy beds at night. And isn’t that essentially what makes city festivals so great? Admittedly, the amazing line up this year does also play a crucial part. We seriously can’t wait to go all Lolla and are giving away tickets to you guys!

Anyone familiar with what’s hot and what’s not after sunset might rub their eyes looking at the festival collaborators Buttons, Cocktail d’Amore, Curated by Girls, Discwoman, Pornceptual, Members, Riot, G Day,  Horse Meat Disco, Unter, and TrashEra. Exclusive Video-Premiere of MissinCat’s new video

In Berlin, people often seem to be in search of something, never wanting to rest or settle down, as if something was pushing them from inside. In fact, one of our guest authors just wrote a text about it. If a person doesn’t leave voluntarily, but has to, it changes the whole perspective of course. MissinCat‘s, aka Caterina Barbieri’s, first song „Made Of Stone” of her new album „Forces” captures that harsh feeling. Read on…

M.I.A. is Crossing Borders

M.I.A. is Crossing Borders

Well, M.I.A. strikes again. In her newest music video ‘Borders’, from her upcoming album ‘MATAHDATAH’, the Bad Girl hits us in the face with reality. The global refugee crisis and the overall state of the world are no longer to be pushed away. This is our present and not only M.I.A. – you are in the midst of it, also here in Berlin. ‘Borders’ is a document of our time and it doesn’t insinuate. It impeaches and it has every right to do so. M.I.A’s picture language is radical and unsparing, the beats are drastic.
