They are the gender fluid twins in art, bold style icons, prolific artists across multiple fields. They’ve established a stimulating, brazen presence that has gained artistic recognition globally. Their unique performance act has been around for 25 years, and yet they never run out of ideas for their next outfit. This fabulous duo calls Berlin their home, and more than that, they seem to impersonate the city’s unrestrained artistry and the desire to cross boundaries. If you haven’t heard of them yet their upcoming retrospective exhibition at me Collectors Room Berlin will give you the opportunity to change that.

EVA & ADELE claim to have landed with their time machine in Berlin of 1989. And I can’t help but believe them: clearly, they come from the future. They first began their ”permanent, lifelong and worldwide performance WHEREVER WE ARE IS MUSEUM” with a 1991 appearance at “Wedding Metropolis” at the Martin-Gropius-Bau museum in Berlin, when they both wore bridal gowns.
Since then, they’ve provided the audience with over 25 years of uninterrupted creative act: showing up at various art events in their invariably astonishing outfits, they have transgressed more unwritten laws than many worldwide performers whose work is considered groundbreaking.

Never neglecting their extraordinary make up or the fabulous matching outfits, EVA & ADELE have always been faithful to their vision of being an everlasting work of art, transforming the space around them into a museum. It’s not only about meticulously crafted details, the shiny latex, heart-shaped wings, or the ubiquitous pink: all that along with their shaved heads and gender ambiguity left many a spectator confused, speechless, and very often: simply in awe.

But they’re not just eccentric celebrities that show up to steal the show. They’re widely recognized artists themselves, who’ve held exhibitions all around the world almost every year since 1997. When EVA & ADELE are not traveling, they’re working on new projects in their Charlottenburg studio. They keep an air of mystery around their private affairs.
Just as one might think, they’re far from restraining themselves within one form of artistic expression, and so it includes polaroids, paintings, drawings, sculptures and installations. Their self-made slogan, Futuring, which is supposed to convey the notion of the couple bringing the concept of gender into the future, was even used as a name for their custom-made Swatch model.

EVA & ADELE’s cheeky aesthetic is always paired up with a disarming smile – in their perfect politeness, they touch upon some extremely important issues: by choosing to defy society’s standards and live by their own rules, they inspire others to find similar courage to express their true self.
Luckily for us all, their retrospective exhibition ”EVA & ADELE – L’AMOUR DU RISQUE” is coming up next week at me Collectors Room Berlin that will showcase their work from 1992 onward, featuring videos, Polaroids, 20 big paintings, drawings, a bed installation, biographical sculptures, and even some costume schedules from their trips. The event will also be accompanied by the launch of their new limited perfume.
