Eating & Drinking For A Good Cause

Eating & Drinking For A Good Cause

photo: Oh Sophia

It’s Christmas time, a good chance to be thoughtful, thankful and helpful. Especially with thousands of refugees arriving in Berlin this year, giving back to people in need becomes an even bigger issue and responsibility for our community. We’re living in a time were we need to reach out to each other, face our global challenges and help together. After visiting some Charity Christmas Markets and donating some money to our Blogfabrik Project #HelpDontHate, we want to look at some other alternatives to help in Berlin. So what do you think about eating and drinking for a good cause?

We found some wonderful and delicious events happening this month that we want to share with you after the jump…

Ramificazioni – An Art Project Portraying the Italian Expats of Berlin

Ramificazioni – An Art Project Portraying the Italian Expats of Berlin

All photos: Maria Silvano

The new arriving people see Berlin as a promise, as a forest of stories sometimes open and sometimes inpenetrable. The migration dynamics of a Europe without borders are not fundamentally very different from those of the previous century: there are the same dreams of luck and prosperity, the same desire for a better life and a longing for what has been left behind that -it is known- is exacerbated with time.

“Ramificazioni” (Ramifications) is Maria Silvano’s point of view on her new city, Berlin. She took portraits and gathered the voices of fellow Italian migrants who moved to the German capital during the last years. They spoke about their deep and faraway roots, their desires and wishes to see their hopes bloom. Looking into the eyes of this hopeful young men and women involved in amazing projects you hope that they will find a fertile ground in Berlin.

The work consists of 13 photos and is accompanied by a soundtrack in which the voices of the photographed subjects overlap each other: problems of pronunciation and inflections language can be composed to create a forest of voices. Enjoy the pictures after the jump and find out the dates of the exhibition.

Twinpigs: A Damn Fine Cocktail Bar

Twinpigs: A Damn Fine Cocktail Bar

Since their opening in April 2014, friends have been telling me to check out the charismatic new Neukölln watering hole, Twinpigs, and the hype has only been building. I’m quite fond of the type of neighborhood bar that doesn’t seem to disappoint (who isn’t?) and as I stepped into Twinpigs for the first time, I knew it was going to be the first of many. The brainchild of a Chilean architect and a Swedish filmmaker, Twinpigs literally happened overnight. After deciding to open their own bar, the two seized the opportunity to take over the serendipitously freed space of a former Boddinstraße speakeasy. After putting in a lot of hard work, love, creativity and dedication, Twinpigs was born. If you enjoy strong drinks, craft beer, and a great atmosphere, click on and see why Twinpigs should be your new favourite hangout.

Getting Cosy with iHeartBerlin and Qozy

Getting Cosy with iHeartBerlin and Qozy

Last week we had the pleasure to finish the celebration of our 7th anniversary with the dinner series Seven Suppers together with Berlin-based start-up Qozy. It has been my plan to do another dinner event that gives us a chance to meet some of our readers since our last one for our 3rd anniversary and I’m glad we finally did it again because it was absolutely charming. I think we have the cutest readers of all Berlin blogs! I wanna thank you all for coming, also our fellow bloggers from Paperboats, Berlin Loves You, Artconnect Berlin, as well as Kaltblut Magazine who followed our invitation.

All of our dinners were prepared by Matthew Maue, one of the chefs from Qozy. He was absolutely excellent and I already miss having him in my kitchen on a daily basis. It was a lovely experience working with the team of Qozy and I warmly recommend to you to try out their amazing service and book one of their delicious menues for you and your friends in your home. On their website you can choose from different options starting at 32 EUR per person for a 3-course menu. One of their professional chefs will come to your home, bring all the ingredients and prepare everything fresh in your kitchen, serve the meals for you and your friends and clean up the place afterwards. It couldn’t be more practical!

After the jump you can get some impressions from the last two of our Seven Suppers. Enjoy and we hope it will wet your appetite!

iHeartBerlin/ale Special: Berlin Film Night – Extended Encore & Party

iHeartBerlin/ale Special: Berlin Film Night – Extended Encore & Party

While we are normally quite active with our own events during Berlin Fashion Week we thought it was about time we also do something during Berlinale, as films have become such a big part of this blog. And what would fit better than the Berlin Film Night, that we did together with Mobile Kino back in September. The turn-out and response was so amazing and we all loved the selection of short films from various genres. It was our plan to give an encore screening of this for those who missed it and now seems to be the right time. To also make it interesting for those who enjoyed the first screening we extended the program with about half an hour of brand new short films. We are also still open to submissions of Berlin-related films and videos.

And as an iHeartBerlin event wouldn’t be the same without a party the screening will be followed by our iHeartBerlin/ale After Film Party. Both take place at the awesome Urban Spree gallery on the upcoming Saturday, Febuary 16th 2013. Find out more after the jump.

The Coolest Bitches of 2012

Most blogs take the final days of the year as an opportunity to recycle their favorite articles of the year. We’ve opeted for another kind of retrospective, and it’s not really about us, but about people who have impressed us this year, more specifically the strong and beautiful women that we have been lucky to cross paths with. Enjoy our parade of the Coolest Bitches of 2012 and why we love them, after the jump.
