The time has finally come: Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Drive will be released this Thursday. I have been excited about this film for months as I was lucky enough to see it at the Vienna Film Festival back in November. It was a Saturday Night 12 pm showing and yet the massive Gartenbau Cinema was sold out completely. Drive had premiered in Cannes, the Refn received the palme d´or as best director and the film was received outstandingly well by audiences and critics alike. So word was out that this was a must see.
Everybody had a beer, everybody was excited and as soon as the film started all hearts stopped in awe. Ryan Gosling is Driver. The nameless Protagonist works in a garage and as a stuntmen during the days, and becomes a getaway driver at nights. He seems introvert and calm, but starts opening up a a littel when he meets and falls in love with his neighbour, Irene (Carey Mulligan). When Irenes husband returns the films starts picking up it´s pace, just to slow down again in all the right moments. Things go wrong, Driver is in trouble, we suddenly see whats inside him, as he fights for his life and Irenes safety.
Refn tells this story in an action manner, but treats it´s protagonists with much more empathy and respect than these films usually do. It pays attention to detail, evokes emotions atypical for this genre and tops the cake with great music.
If you like action thrillers you´re hopefully already checking playing times in a nearby cinema. If this isn´t your typical choice, let me try to convince you again: Drive is much more than an action thriller. It´s a character study, an amazingly empathetic film that finds the perfect balance between action and conversation, fast cuts and slow motion and has an amazing cast. Go see it on the big screen!

It was a little bit the highlight of our trip to Paris: the Autumn Winter 2012/13 fashion show of Bernhard Willhelm who happens to be one of my favorite designers since I saw his great installation presentation in Berlin in 2009. We also saw the shows of Walter van Beirendonck, that we also liked a lot, as well as Damir Doma who gave a very impressive runway show. But the Willhelm show made me particularily happy because it was also the most enjoyable collection in recent saisons and I’m looking forward to see it in the shops. Enjoy my partly animated runway photos after the jump.

The FAME exhibition of Who’s Next Paris that we visited on our third day in Paris is dedicated to luxury trends and high class products. The chic Parisian label 85/86 has a quite artistic approach to fashion. Deconstructing the typical superficial sterotype is an upcoming thing for small luxury labels. The young graduate designers Alena Kudera Johnson, Ruth Green, Victoria Spruce and Lyudmilla Lane represented the right mix of avant-garde and theatricality which is also looking to become a big fashion trend in the next two years.
A more relaxed approach to luxury is delivered by the casual label Misericordia. But as hard as I try to have this super elite taste, my heart simply beats higher when I see a funny print, a glossy shoe and sparkle and glitter and lots of colour. French label Manoush and Danish label Charlotte Sparre make me happy with Madonnas, folky colorsplashes and funny icebear prints.
There was also an exhibition featuring Austrian fashion designers with very cool stuff from AND_I and cool glasses by Andy Wolf. We also made some more jewellery discovery today at the Premiere Class which is sharing the same hall. Check out tatty devine for cool jewellery animals. See my impressions after the jump.

Bonjour everyone! This week, Berlin’s weather couldn’t be worse, but fortunately there are lots of events inviting us to forget the world outside: The Mindpirates are celebrating with Lionel Williams and Raz Ohara, Jorinde Voigt shows works from the last seven years and several group shows are opening. Finally, a Sunday flea market enables a perfect escape from both hangover and the rain. While Frank enjoys the Paris Fashion Week and travels around the globe, I will do my best acting for him as your iHeartBerlin art guide for the next six weeks. See my first guide after the jump…

On the fourth day of Berlin Fashion Week our beloved label Odeur had their presentation at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week studio. As always, they managed to give minimalism a unique and intersting edge. Check out the video and the pictures after the jump, as well as some more impressions of the day on 2 pages.

Saturday is the perfect day for flea markets. But with today’s rainy weather the Toast & Jam was the perfect alternative. The Vintage Fashion Fair took place for the first time ever in these last three days. Fashion, furniture and accessories from various decades are for sale and finest Vintage Couture pieces are on offer next to no-name knitted jumpers. Exberliner magazine and Nowkoelln Flowmarkt initiated the Vintage Fashion Market and promise: „Bygone trends will be rediscovered.“ Anne Poprausch, winner of the Vintage Smackdown, was one of the 30 selected sellers „I am thrilled“ she told us „ I didn’t think the Bread & Butter crowd would come to see us, but the two worlds actually mixed. I’d definitely do it again, if I’m invited!“
And we´ll certainly come back. Because instead of wasting the day going from one place to the other, we loved having more time to browse! Check all info about the sellers, party and of course all our photos after the Jump.

Bleans Je Vovis
After seeing jaw-dropping fashion shows yesterday surrounded by all the fabulous people Paris has to offer, walking around over the urbanwear exhibition Mr. Brown at the Who’s Next Paris today was quite relaxing. I encountered one label I was totally fond of and made me want to meet more young designers. The unisex clothes at the little both of Bleans Je Vovis had the right mix of cool and chic that made me want everything of it
Frank was a fan of the cheaky, sexy and casual aesthetic of French street label Elevenparis. Overall we liked the playfull attempt of some labels to inspire the visitors with the funniest installations and we liked listening to the bands playing during the day.
More impressions of the giant urban and menswear trade show Mr. Brown after jump.

On our third day of Berlin Fashion Week I took my time to visit all the avant-garde showrooms and exhibitions. This might not sound so exciting because there is no event or show or party taking place. But here I get the chance to actually talk to the designers who create all these great collections face-to-face and get to know the person that designs the clothes I am wearing. On my tour I visited the SEEK exhibition, Temporary Showroom, Collect, the (capsule) tradeshow and finally the showroom of Edged and fier Management. Meet the designers and see our impressions after the jump.

Andres Gallardo
Here we are at last: Paris Fashion Week. We were invited by Who’s Next Paris Prêt-à-Porter trade show to discover the world of fashion in Paris. And what a big world it is. When we arrived at the grounds of the trade show at Portes de Versailles we were a bit shocked of how huge it is. The 6-fairs-in-one event is hosted in 4 big halls that make you feel very small. Hundreds if not thousands of brands from all over the world are exhibiting their latest collections here.
On our first day we decided to start with the jewellery and accessories exhibition of Première Class. While browsing through the first hall of shoes we rediscovered the British shoe label United Nude that we though was the most edgy and intersting one of the whole exhibition. Of course the Eiffel Tour Heel was also quite charming…
After the shoes we took a look at all the jewellery labels in the next hall. Here we especially liked the wonderful porcelain jewellery of Spanish designer Andres Gallardo and the laser-cut leather accessories by Italien label C.A. 2. After the jump you will find our favorite finds of the exhibition as well as our outfits of the day.

The amazing fashion film Aerial Ambitions by film makers Morten Bo Johansson & Tue Juelsbo for the Swedish label Odeur is actually one of the most amazing fashion films I’ve seen. It retells the greek myth of Ikarus who tries to reach for the sun but of course fails in his ambitions. The video was shot in Morocco. Enjoy it after the jump.
