With techno it is like any other kind of youth culture: Most books that have been written about it are horrible. There are only very few exceptions. So check out our selection of the books about techno after the jump (German only, as the books are also German).

Oh my, they all freak. Random men start speaking to you on the street, girls wearing tiny skirts, flirting. Summer has arrived, the hormons drive em wild. Quick, little party kid, into the darkness of the night, protect yourself from the crazyness of flirthungry folks and dive into the music. In case you want to party AND flirt in the sun, first of May is up and with it wilderness on the streets of Berlintown. Nanah, don’t even think about throwing bricks, leave that to the ones who trained hard over the years. Where and when to rave and riot right after the jump: Read on – Weiterlesen »

Next week I am going on a blogger trip to Prague. The guys from Mit Vergnügen were so kind to invite us along with fellow bloggers from Travelettes, LaJessie, Amy&Pink, This Is Jane Wayne and a few more to visit the Electronic Beats festival on May 5th, with concerts of The Whites Boy Alive, Grimes and Woodkid, as well as a DJ set from Mike Skinner from The Streets. I am especially excited to see Woodkid again, his concert at Festsaal Kreuzberg a while ago was amazing and I’m psyched to hear the new songs from his upcoming debut album The Golden Age. The details about the festival after the jump.

Last week I went on a little trip to the former GDR Funkhaus at Nalepastraße with Claudio and Gina. We wanted to take a look at this amazing location and also check out the opening of the group show Broadcast. Our visit turned out to be a trip through art wonderland. In addition to the group exhibition there was also an open studio night at many of the small artist studios that are now inside the Funkhaus (many empty rooms can still be rented for cheap). There was a great creative energy in the air in the hallways of the old broadcast building. With all the musician and artist studios this almost felt like a big creative commune. Have a look after the jump at our impressions, this time in the form of Instagrams.

When models turn into musicians, the outcome is rather horrible in most cases. Eva Padberg is different. For more than six years she has been performing together with her husband Dapayk. In 2008, the Noze remix of their song Island became a huge hit. Just recently Dapayk & Padberg released their third album Sweet Nothings on Stil vor Talent.
In our interview with Dapayk & Padberg, we asked them about music by Michel Teló, The Black Keys, Serge Gainsbourg and Frivolous. More after the jump.

As I mentioned two weeks ago: I have been looking forward to seeing My Week with Marilyn since I heard about the project it in fall 2010. So of course I went and watched it right away when it was released last week. Unfortunately it wasn’t quite what I had expected. My review of the film, as well as some more film recommendations after the jump.

On Friday we previewed our German designer export program that we are doing with our project Designer Scouts at the Fashion & Art Toronto Festival in Canada this week. Participating labels Moga E Mago and Isabel Vollrath were showing a fashion presentation and an installation at Merkezi. And we also screened the new fashion film by Katja Hentschel that was specifically created for the festival in Toronto. After the jump you will find the impressions of the preview event on 2 pages.

I found this exciting fashion film in the brand new fashion film section of Not Just A Label. It seems to me, that directors Marcin Kempski and Maciek Dąbrowski have set foot on a new genre: Fashion Horror Movies. Their film Ember for the label Konrad Parol is inspired by one of the most gruesome scenes in The Silence Of The Lambs, and it really is as creepy as the Hollywood movie. Get your scare after the jump.

The rock’n'roll of the early sixties, Film Noir, Bo Diddley, dubstep, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Afrika Bambaataa and The Ramones: one would never guess that there is anything that these artists and aesthetics have in common. Willy Moon, a 21 year old newcomer from New Zealand, managed to combine all these influences in his music, which can be described as neo rock’n'roll. On Monday, April 23, he plays his first concert in Germany at the Berghain – which is not the worst location for a debut. Check out the music after the jump and take your chance to win two tickets for the show.
