I was one of the biggest Fan of the Bar 25. I think I had the most magical, romantic, funny, crazy Berlin nights at that place. Memories I will have forever. But am I ready to see the place of my own memories captured in a documentary? Not so sure if the pictures of a movie can at all capture the memories and emotions I have connected to this place. Still the Bar 25 documentary is one of the most anticipated movies of Berlin’s youth and party culture and I will probably watch it even if the impressions of the trailer feel a little trashy. Only one day to go, tomorrow is casual Friday and you can wear your beanies, finally. I have the feeling that this is the summer of goodbyes! And nothing is more strange than saying goodbye to somebody who you never really met. Like the colleague that quits just at the second day of your new job. So it was strange for me to read on facebook that the Kiki Blofeld is closing for good this weekend. In my mind I was there a million times but actually I was always on the other side of the river dancing at the Bar 25. My friend used to say about Kiki: Always when I was there I felt like the people on the other side of the river have more fun. Well now it’s kind of over for both sides. Even if there is still the new little cat at the river. But Kiki Blofeld will not go without saying goodbye. This weekend there will be a lot going on. Check out the program to learn more. Some things are so highly anticipated that the excitement has already vanished by the time it finally arrives. That was also the case for Kater Holzig which is one of the new kids from the Bar 25 staff. When it was finally opening I wasn’t as excited as I thought I would be. But when I finally entered I realized that the long waiting paid off. The new terrain of pleasure looks amazing! I already have fantasies of how it will be when the initial hype is over and the fun stuff will beginn. So far I only had the chance to check out their Katerschmaus. When the rumour was spread in 2010 that the Bar 25 would close down for good, nobody really believed it. For all the previous years, people have been celebrating a closing party, but it was never really ending. In the next spring, the club would always open its doors again.
Things finally changed. At the open air party on October 31 on the area of what used to be the Bar 25 everybody realized, that this was the final end. Everything had been torn down: the bar, the restaurant, the circus and everything else. Not everyone had regrets about that. The Bar 25 was famous for its strict bouncers, and the hype about the club seemed more and more irritating to some of its regular guests.
Anyhow: if you are now watching the music video of Dirty Doering’s I would, you once again get the feeling of what was so extraordinary and wonderful about this place. And it is not only the pictures, it is the music in and of itself that evoke the unique atmosphere. There is maybe no other track that is deeply connected to the summer of 2010 at Bar 25. But seriously, there is no reason to get sentimental here, as the successor of the club is going to open in the middle of May…
It is quite likely that Dirty Doering will take part in that as well. Generally, his DJ sets are among the best you can experience in the Berlin night life. We talked to him about music by Althea and Donna, Nancy Sinatra, The Shins and Andhim. And of course there is the “I would” video. More after the jump.

Berlin is the only city where a funeral is held for the closing of a club and lightning up memorial candles for it doesn’t seem totally inappropriate or even blasphemous. The funeral for the Bar 25 last Sunday was a real emotional moment for a lot of people. I remebered beeing very very emotional last year, but that is a too long story for this little blog. Seeing the complete area empty was a shocking experience and strangely magic at the same time. Those were the best days of my life… Ok, party folks, this is the end of the summer, why not breaking new ground and going outside during daytime, otherwise you’ll kick yourself for not having seen the sun at least once this summer.
