MIDI – The HTW 4th Semester Fashion Show

MIDI – The HTW 4th Semester Fashion Show

photos: Olga Khristolyubova

After the UdK and the Weißensee fashion shows I would like to now come to the one school that I used to study at (though not in the design department): The HTW. They don’t really have a graduates show like the other schools, but the 4th semester design students have been independantly organizing their own show for a while now. This year it was called MIDI and took place at the new Kiki Blofeld in Schöneweide, not too far from the HTW school. The HTW is mostly known to be the most technical and industry-oriented of the three public universities where you can study fashion in Berlin. This doesn’t mean that the students there are less experimental and daring with their designs. Especially in the early semesters there is a lot of room to go wild. So the 4th semester show has been once again an interesting mix of ideas and styles. We sent our contributing photographer Olga to capture some impressions for you. Enjoy!

UdK Schau 2014 – Graduates Show & Backstage

UdK Schau 2014 – Graduates Show & Backstage

photo: Alicia Kassebohm

Probably the most talked about of all the graduate shows of Berlin Fashion Week is the one from the UdK. It’s Berlin’s most experimental fashion school and one of the most renowned ones in Germany. Their graduates show is the only one that is part of the official Berlin Fashion Week and it takes place on the official runway of Mercedes-Benz. In the past years the UdK show hasn’t always been my favorite one, Weißensee and ESMOD also have some great talents that have shown amazing stuff. But this year the show was really amazing. Our guest author Alicia Kassebohm took a look behind the scenes and made some backstage photos for you that you can see after the jump. On the second page we also have a best of from the runway show with photos by Corina Lecca courtesy of the UdK.

The Happy Bubbles of Hope – A Performance by Andrey Bartenev

The Happy Bubbles of Hope – A Performance by Andrey Bartenev

photos: Olga Khristolyubova

After last year’s crazy golden naked Haute Coiffure runway show of Charlie Le Mindu at Badeschiff the guys from the Berlin Fashion Film Festival invited Russian performance artist Andrey Bartenev and his happy bubbles to be the big show act for this year’s BfFF Award Show that took place at the former silent movie theater Delphi along with a live music performance of chart-topping Dutch act Kovacs. The show was absolutely out of control, joyful and crazy and we loved it. Our talented contributing photographer Olga Khristolyubova caught some shots for us backstage and during the performance by Bartenev. Enjoy the madness after the jump on 3 pages!

A Fashion Week Cool Downer

A Fashion Week Cool Downer

When it comes to Fashion Week you have two choices: Be a good fashion blogger and rush to all the shows and write about the collections later. Or you can skip the hassle of the shows and enjoy all the relaxed side events taking place all over town with free drinks, snacks and other amenities.

The Samsung Fashion Cool Downer at the #Inland pop-up shop offered exactly this last Thursday and I was happy to drop by to cool down a bit and enjoy some Thomas Henry cocktails and Glacéau vitaminwater. At the event I was once more educated about the coolness of Scandinavian fashion with the #Inland showroom presentation of a group of Finish designers who make amazing fashion and clever products. The collaboration with the Samsung Food Showcase also introduced the terminoligy “kitchenista” to me which pretty much means that you do not only use your fridge for food but also for make-up and lotions as well as leather and cashmere goods which apparently keeps them look fresh and new. The huge deluxe refridgerator offers lots of space for exactly that in their practical showcase shelf in the double door. Nifty!

The #Inland showroom has now turned into a proper shop once the Fashion Week was over, so now the general public can shop some great Finish design and check out the fancy Samsung Food Showcase until the end of August. Some impressions after the jump.

seefashion14 Fashion Show

seefashion14 Fashion Show

On Monday of last week the students and graduates of the Kunsthochschule Weissensee unofficially opened the Berlin Fashion Week with a runway show of their work and final collections at the backyard and gallery of the Aufbauhaus in front of Prince Charles. It had to overcome some obsticles in the form of heavy rain that caused a delay, a short blackout and a slippery runway. But the designs made up for the circumstance and they delivered an interesting and diverse show with many great and inspiring looks and ideas. As we love to support young talents we want to use our platform to present you some of the work we have seen at the seefashion14 show. Enjoy our gallery after the jump on 4 pages.

FIER Vitrine – An Avant-Garde Group Show

FIER Vitrine – An Avant-Garde Group Show

When I entered the Lehrter Siebzehn location on Tuesday night for the exhibition party FIER Vitrine I was pretty impressed. Of all the events by FIER Management this was by far the best one. Ten really well selected international labels presented their new collections here with really nice set-ups and fashion presentations. Every corner was dedicated to another label and arranged to create a little world around the design work itself. Every presentation had one, two or three models showing the key pieces of each collection. I really enjoyed all of them, but my favorite one of all was for sure the menswear collection by Aussie Alexandra Hackett who created every piece of silver foile. Very cool! Take a walk with me through the fashion exhibition after the jump.

Life is a Pool – Backstage Love with Barre Noire

Life is a Pool – Backstage Love with Barre Noire

With his latest Spring/Summer collection for his label Barre Noire designer Timm Süßbrich remained true to his casual, yet elegant lineage, this time under the heading “Life is a Pool”. In double-row he presented looks with clear forms from the men’s and women’s line that one could wear on practically any occasion. In addition to an Aztec pattern one could also find Timm’s beloved flower and leopard designs – especially eye-catching in a two-piece-suit, cleverly combined with a leather midi skirt or flowing trousers. Vibrant colours together with muted nuances and soft shades of pastel made a great combination. The outfits were rounded off with shimmering details on skirts and jackets and splendid round mirror shades. To get a closer look enjoy my backstage and runway impressions after the jump.

Distorted Barbie Power Fashion with Franziska Michael

Distorted Barbie Power Fashion with Franziska Michael

Talented young Designer Franziska Michael knows how to create distorted beauty. From dark fairytales to tennis yard love we are in love with her abstract fashion creations from the beginning of her short but powerful career. Guest editor and photographer Alicia Kassebohm visited her show for us and was more than impressed with the distorted barbie creations.

“Team FM”, Dogukan calls to the models after going through the runway order with them. Surely one quickly realizes that this team interacts in a positive and fun way. Franziska Michael knows how to work contrasts and how to present an exciting show. The current collection embraces experimentation and is inspired by sportive 90s style and Science Fiction. It was not without reason that there was a rollergame pinball in the middle of the studio.

When it comes to the materials, there are skilful combinations of mesh, varnish, leather, neoprene, latex body suits and even hair fixed on sweaters – all worn to sneakers, belly tops, patterned leggings or wide cut trousers and jackets. Distorted barbie heads combined with blue lips or a net gym bag with ice cream cones made out of plastic.

All in all, the collection is modern , extraordinary and comes with a wink of the eye – some already said it’s the best one of Franziska Michael. More photos after the jump.
