I suppose everyone is expecting a Berlinale post, but I didn´t get to see any of the winning films, so I suppose it´s better to read about Barbara, Tabu, Csak a szél or Cesare deve morire in the newspapers.
Instead I decided to focus this week’s post on something entirely different: carnival. I´m from Cologne, and although it isn´t Rio, carnival is huge there. We dress up, we go to pubs, we dance on the table, and after six crazy days the entire city has one massive hangover. Finding a new costume each year is quite a challenge, and because angels, devils or policemen become boring after a while, people often seek for inspiration in films. Common costumes are cartoon characters like Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, Spiderman or Donald Duck. But there are also great costumes in real life films…

The Mindpirates are an artist collective who have been working in their homebase at Schlesi for two years now bringing out artistic projects, exhibitions, screenings, concerts and all kinds of events. The space is inside an abandoned mill at the banks of the river Spree which gives it a very special atmosphere.
Narragonia – their big Halloween party on Saturday – was also their second anniversary celebration. It was an amazing evening with haunting concerts, scary costumes and dangerous drinks! Have a look at some impressions after the jump on 2 pages.

Here comes the third Halloween party photo set. This time from the awesome Mindpirates Halloween & 2nd Anniversary party that took place on Saturday. Halloween is actually not happening until Monday, but all the Halloween parties are taking place on Saturday already. I wonder if the dead will be so amused about that! The dresscode for Saturday’s Disco Mystix Halloween party was “aquatic creatures”. Most Berliners are so lame about dress up parties, even to Halloween. I hate that.
