January is the time where many magazines look back and give you the top ten releases of the old year. We find that boring and want to look ahead. What music releases are on the horizon this year? With our next three articles we will give you a little forecast of what’s coming in the pop, alternative and black music scene.
Let’s start with some big names of the pop world: Janet Jackson, Madonna, Alanis Morissette, to name only a few. Read on to find out who’s coming back this year.
February already brings us one big name back into our minds: Janet Jackson. Her new single Feedback is already all over the radio and it’s a quite catchy dance number. Just recently she released her new video which reminded us a lot of an old Missy Elliott video. The artwork of her single is by far more interesting. It’s the first picture of the post by the way. The album Discipline will follow in Febuary.
Her troubled brother Michael will release a 25th aniversary edition of his most popular album Thriller and is also expected to release a new album that was coproduced by will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas, Kanye West and Akon.
In April we will see a new Madonna album. The woman who is often considered to be an innovator decided to go the easy way and collaborated with Timbaland who also helped fading popstar Nelly Furtado and ex-boyband member Justin Timberlake back to fame and fortune. After her last Disco album Concussions On A Dancefloor suprisingly became her most successful album of recent years (with the help of a little ABBA sample) she obviously ran out of ideas and gave her new songs in the safe hands of the man who seems to have become the Bill Gates of the music world. The title of the album will be Give It To Me which is kind of funny, because the first single of Timbalands last solo record had the same name. At the end of the month Madonna will be shooting the video to her first single 4 Minutes To Save The World, a duet with Justin Timberlake who is also a coproducer of the record. Amen.

And guess who else is coming back: Alanis Morissette. Her new album will be called “Flavours Of Entanglement” and is slated for an April release. The brand new music video to her first single Underneath can be found here. In a recent video on her website she revealed that she is planning on writing a book. I just hope it’s not a painfully detailed evaluation of her relationships like most of her lyrics are.
In February we can also expect a new record from Mariah Carey, if you want it or not. Followed by Jewel and Dido in Spring and a new record from No Doubt later this year. What a treat!
