Street Art Giants, Part 2

Street Art Giants

Os Gemeos

This jolly fella is my favorite street artwork that I pass by on my way to work. A while ago the orange color of his shirt was really vibrant, almost neon, but it washed out over time. Some more giants here and after the jump.

A T-Shirt a day…

Le Gang

…keeps the doctor away! This phrase jumped into my eyes when I passed by the Pappelallee in Prenzlauer Berg. It was attached to the window of the street wear shop Le Gang. I must say that I am not the biggest fan of street wear but this little shop has more to offer than t-shirts because it’s also a gallery. What I liked most were the robot toys. But if you are into urban wear I am sure that there will be some t –shirts keeping you healthy. More pictures after the jump.

Vampires with Southern Accents

True Blood

To me vampires are something that will only interest a certain group. Vampires movies are either goth, gore or tacky, with only a few exceptions. When I heard that Alan Ball, creator of the great tv show Six Feet Under, would turn a book series on vampires into a tv show I was really surprised and sceptical. But what I saw of it convinced me that this is something different, something out of the genre. And I’m sure that True Blood will be worth a bite. More after the jump.

Street Art Giants, Part 1

Street Art Giants

BLU & JR

On my way to work I pass by some of the biggest pieces of street art I have seen here in Berlin. I love it when art is big. I’ve been always meaning to capture them. So I went out on a sunny weekend and took some pictures for you. More giants and some little ones after the jump.

Pretty (N)ice

Gemelli Ice Cream

Selling ice cream sounds like a pretty simple job. But obviously it is not. Some places might have an eye for impressive presentation, but their ice cream tastes more like a male byproduct. Other places look like an interior nightmare but their ice cream is really good. This weekend we discovered a place that wins both in looks and taste. The Gemelli ice café! Its interior looks like it could be a setting of Elle Home Magazine. And the Italian style ice cream which is made in-house is really good and they have a really creative variety of flavors. Frank instantly became a junkie to their poppy seed ice cream. So thumbs up for this little Kreuzberg pearl! Photos and details after the jump.

Cheap Art?

Mareike Felsch

Mareike Felsch

Art for 100 Euros? Is this possible? For me the slogan sounded a little bit like the one euro shops that you can find everywhere selling useless bullshit. The art fair Art Essenz that will take place at the Sony Center from August 22 – 24 is not trying to be cheap at all. They want to connect with people who usually wouldn’t go to a gallery or to an art show. I highly appreciate the idea of creating an art space for people who don’t like the usual arrogance of the art scene and the overrated junk like this year’s Biennale. The entrance is free. More pictures and details after the jump.

Berlin, good-bye! Seoul, hello! The iHeartBerlin.de-Team is on its way to Korea and Japan, for style research of course. For one months we will travel both countries of the rising sun and hope to bring you back some insights of the “Western” Asian civilization. Don’t be afraid, we prepared some posts for the time of our absence, so you can still read about Berlin at this place. But we’ll also try to write about our adventures in Seoul, Busan, Hakata, Hiroshima, Kyoto and Tokyo. Until then, Sayonara!

Dinner at the Swan Lake

Restaurant Schönbrunn

A while back we tried out the Restaurant of the Cafe Schönbrunn at Volkspark Friedrichshain. So far I have only been to the cheaper beer garden that is located directly next to it. But the white table cloths and fancy plates on the terrace tempted us, so we made a reservation on a warm summer night to enjoy a dinner at the swan lake. I must admit that I haven’t seen any swans in the lake, but the atmosphere was great and the food was fantastic, in taste as well as in presentation. It is a bit on the pricer side with dishes ranging from 12-22 EUR, but I think it is worth it. I had roasted Barbarie duck and CR had sword fish in sesame crust with mangold. I can really recommend both of them. More images and details after the jump.

Grilled Rips at the Spree

White Trash’s Strandmarkt

I’m sure some of you passed by this place several times while traveling on the S-Bahn. From above it looks a little like a pirate themed adventure park. But actually it is the beach bar and grill by the owners of the White Trash Fast Food. Located directly at the spree it offers a lot of space and some delicious grill rips that I can’t get enough of! It is also pretty family friendly. More after the jump.

Fantasy Filmfest 2008 – Our Selection

Transsiberian

Tonight is the big opening of this year’s Fantasy Filmfest at the Cinemaxx at Potsdamer Platz. I know for a lot of people the Filmfest stands for b-movies, slasher films and bad horror flicks. So most assume that if you are not a genre fan this is not worth going to. But that’s not necessarily true. The Filmfest also features a handful of great thrillers and decent scary movies. To give you a little inspiration we made a list of 4 movies that we would like to recommend, including the festival highlight Transsiberian, an intense thriller with Emily Mortimer, Woody Harrelson and Ben Kingsley. More images, infos and trailers after the jump.
