Most theater plays we write about are in German. But this one you can enjoy in/with every tongue. Leave Berlin behind you and dive into the depth of the giant old power plant of Vockerode. In the abyss of these impressive industrial grounds you will meet the Marquis de Sade, the famous and intriguingly appealing historical character. Find out more about this dance theatre production after the jump.
If I had to describe this evening in four words I would say obscure, romantic, mechanical and tempting. The architecture of the old power plant reminds me more of a cathedral then an industrial building. The play is divided in three parts that describe the live and fantasies of the Marquis de Sade. The myth of this character becomes totally vivid without becoming a cliché. It is deeply intellectual and seductively erotic at the same time, which is something I cannot say about a lot of German theatre productions.
If you want to treat yourself with fancy dinner you can make your choice between a number of menus, which is quite practical because there is not much else going on in the area. You’ll find more information on dates, prices and location on their website. Don’t be put off by the trip – it’s totally worth it.
