Dance for nothing?

I think one of the most endangered species of artists here in Berlin are contemporary dancers. Most of them I know are bar tenders or something else that has nothing to do with dance. And most of them had to pay a really expensive education because there is hardly any state education for contemporary dance. From January 2 until 12 the Tanztage at the Sophiensaele, Berlin’s biggest dance festival, will bring them into the spotlight. Read on for more images, videos and infos.

This year the festival wants to raise awareness about how many choreographers and dancers work without a budget or a budget that covers only up to 25 % of the costs they have. And even if some people think that contemporary dance is just some new bullshit with crazy people falling down and standing up, I think that contemporary dance is a part of the unbelievable cultural richness that Berlin has to offer. It’s a shame that people think it’s worth nothing. So go there and let them surprise you! It’s never to late to find a sensibility for a new art form.
