You probably already noticed the great weather outside. I mean, I’m not so easily fooled by some flowers and a little bit of sunshine to get me into a Spring mood. But seeing all the freelancers coming out of their winter caves and start to sit outside in the cafes feels like a perfect Berlin Spring to me. Every big city gave me some kind of anxiety in terms of being busy and having a job. Not Berlin, where it feels totally fine to have nothing else to do than meeting a friend, walk around in circles and wait for something big and exciting to happen. I love the Spring in Berlin. Here I come.
only that here never anything exiting happens (careerwise) to you – so actually the real Berliners are definitly not waiting “for something big and exciting to happen” . Not in Winter and not in spring or summer either.
That is exactly the reason why people born her or living longer in the city then say 15 years like to look down on the hordes of newcommers – only when you have accepted that nothing as big as in other big places in the world will ever happen to you here you have become the cool, relaxed and sometimes rude to outsiders “Berliner” and understood the city. Good luck!
oh wait – yeah the wall came down 1989- that was kinda big, no?
Most Berliners though – true to their nature – have knd of forgotten about it. Although they surely won’t mind having a Currywurst on it when the anniversary commes.
