Faith No More, the gods of crossover – or however you name their music – are back! Not only did they make their long-rumoured reunion official, they are also touring in Europe this summer – before even having played gigs in the States!
After the band split in the year of 1998 there seemed to be no chance for a reunion. Singer Mike Patton, drummer Mike Bordin, bassist Billy Gould, keyboarder Roddy Bottum and guitarist Jim Martin seemed to have too many differences to come together. And it seemed to be just another case of an extremely talented rock band whose members weren’t able to handle the side effects of their enormous success. Also the constant demands of fans all over the world could not convince the band members to approach one another. In a recent statement bassist Billy Gould explained that this year for the first time they all sat down together to talk and they realized that “through all the hard work, the music still sounds good, and we are beginning to appreciate the fact we might have actually done something right.”
This is a statement I can only support, thinking of the 1987 amazing album Introduce Yourself as well as songs such as Epic and Out of Nowhere on their The Real Thing album and not to forget wicked Angel Dust including the single Midlife Crisis. Amazing songs full of energy I listened to on my walkman then and I’m still listening to them today, only on my ipod…
Those of you who weren’t such a big fan as I was, surely remember their ballad Easy from their final album Album of the Year. In 1988 singer Mike Patton took over for Chuck Mosely and the band headed for rather insane but extremely ingenious lyrics as you can check out on the gold album Angel Dust. In their recent statement the band members are describing the band as some sort of unique beast, part dog, part cat and themselves and their music as schizophrenic. A statement that is very true and honest in my opinion. Hopefully, apart from a new guitarist, nothing changed during ten years and the concert on the 16th will be as smashing as the other three I went to years ago!
The Berlin concert is next week, on the June 16 at Wuhlheide, tickets are 39 Euro, so hurry up!
