Berlin Fashion Week – Spring/Summer 2010 – Review Part 3
To me the clear winners of this season’s Berlin Fashion Week were once again the smaller designers. Black Coffee from South Africa was my favorite on the first day. The Designer for Tomorrow show totally stunned me on the third day and the Starstyling show was a lot of fun to watch. More details and images after the jump.

After a few shows that didn’t really excite me the Ramirez and Black Coffee double show was the first thing that got me into the mood for Fashion Week. While Ramirez wasn’t really my thing the silky ribbon dresses of Black Coffee had my full attention. The first few dresses had some sort of wrapping function. So each time two models met in the middle of the runway one of them wrapped the dress around the other.

Because of the pouring rain I came into the Designer For Tomorrow show really last minute. I had to stand in the back, but this didn’t make the show in any way less impressive. The designers who made it into the final 8 of this design challenge presented a small collection on the runway. With one exception each of them was more impressive than the other. When the last designer’s models came out on the runway I totally got goosebumps which is a really rare moment in the otherwise slightly overrated Fashion Week context. To me Sam Frenzel was the winner, and luckily the jury agreed. Sasa Kovacevic was my second favorite.

The show of Berlin-based cult label Starstyling must have been the one that I was most looking forward to. Even though I was really struggeling with myself if I would really get up at 9 on Saturday morning I made it on time and the place was packed. Even Peaches made it although she had a concert the night before. The designs were certainly a lot of fun and I totally envied the front row people as they got a cool visor in their goodie bag. But alltogether I expected them to do a little more for the runway instead of just carrying on with their usual designs.
