Once Were Wings

This coming Friday Strychnin Gallery presents an exhibition of the American artist Jason Shawn Alexander. I saw one of his paintings already during the last Strychnin exhibition in one of the back rooms and I was so faszinated by it that I was really thrilled to learn that the next show in the gallery would be his. He is not only a painter but also an illustrator for the comic industry and quite famous at that, one of his comics is currently being made into a movie. More of his art after the jump.

The Zombie Walk

This weekend I left this glorious city to visit my gran in the countryside who celebrated her 75th birthday. And while I was sitting in a circle of elderly folks sipping filtered coffee and eating cake Berlin was attacked by a group of blood thirsty zombies. And I missed all the fun… This little zombie get together was to celebrate the birthday of the late Michael Jackson and it culminated in a Thriller performance in front of the Brandenburger Tor. More of this freaky flashmob after the jump.

Hunee

Those were the best days of my life… Ok, party folks, this is the end of the summer, why not breaking new ground and going outside during daytime, otherwise you’ll kick yourself for not having seen the sun at least once this summer. This weekend there are again endless opportunities to have a good party and stock up on some sunshine for example at a terrace or in a park. Parties after the jump.

And… SWOOSH!! There comes – totally out of the blue – a non-Berlin-related naked boy between our party tipps and exhibitions that we normally write about here. Just for the fun of it! And in this case in the shape of Brazilian model Marlon Teixeira as captured by one Terry Richardson off of very popular photographer at the moment. He did this for a clothing label we couldn’t care less for. It’s called… no, I forgot. And there are not so many clothes to see in the first place. See for yourself after the jump.

You may have heard that the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year. More event details after the beat.

Madhouse Berlin – Therapy Session Nr. 3

You think the Ku Klux Clan is scary? Well, then you’ve never met the Cuckoos Clan here in Berlin. The members of this clan are the scary cuckoo’s children. These people prefer to find an easy way into your nest rather than building one of their own. Tips on how to recognise them, classify them to ensure that us little birdies still get our life-supply of worms and more funny clocks from Stefan Strumbel after the cheep!

A Forest

a f 1

Today I have a very charming concert that I would like to recommend. A Forest is a young band from Germany who will release their debut album this fall. Their sound is very dreamy, accoustic, a little jazzy and melancholic. You can check out some of their tracks over at their MySpace page. The concert will take place this Wednesday at Acud in Mitte and it’s for free! More pictures and details after the jump.

Some of you might know the iconic illustrations of Dutch artist and designer Parra from his limited edition shirts and hoodies by Rockwell. This Thursday he will open his first solo show in Berlin at Pool Gallery in Mitte. If you prefer the t-shirts over his paintings you should drop by his pop-up shop at Wood Wood that will be open for the length of the exhibition starting this Saturday. The details after the jump.

Froks Fall Winter 2009/10

frimg_3396a

We have been following young Danish designer Maja Haahr and her label Froks for a few seasons now. She has been very consistant with her designs and we love what she does. Her new fall winter 2009/10 collection is in stores now. Here in Berlin you can get it at Flagship Store at Oderberger Strasse, at Fourstore at Mulackstrasse and at Pale Blue Eyes at Kastanienallee. And if you don’t mind looking at winter clothes in this heat you can check out more photos of her male and female line after the jump.
