Listening to music with Sebo

When somebody told me about the Fusion and the Bachstelzen for the first time, I was fascinated, but I couldn’t really understand what it was all about, and of course I was wondering about the strange name.

But when I attended my first Bachstelzen party, I could totally understand why everyone is so enthusiastic about it. Experiencing the Bachstelzen is like diving into an enchanted, magic dream world: there is the unique, imaginative, bizarre decoration; there are all these wonderful people, these colourful “birds of paradise”, and of course there is this marvellous music by artists such as David Dorad, Skinnerbox, Madmotormiquel and Sebo, to name just a few.

We talked to Sebo – one of the makers of Bachstelzen – about the music of, among others, MGMT, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, KLF and New York Dolls; additionally we have some Soul, Ska and Techno classics. Enjoy it after the jump!

Bobby Reed – The time is right for love

Oh Yeah! I don’t want to say much about this. Just close your eyes and enjoy…

Justin Hinds & The Dominoes – Over the river

This reminds me of my time in Freiburg; there, I listened to nothing but Reggae, Ragga & Ska for more than 2 years. Naturally, Justin Hinds was a part of that time. Bob Marely and Justin Hinds are definitely the grandfathers of Reggae and Ska. This is easily done, but these are still some pleasant “tunes” for me. 😉

New York Dolls – Personality Crisis

Viva la Glamrock Punk. I know New York Dolls for a long time. The singer looks really similar to Mick Jagger. What a mouth…. I don’t have a close relationship to this kind of music any more. But when I listen to it, I see myself back when I was 16: I was wearing long hair, all my clothes were at least two sizes too big, and I used to spend all my weekends at alternative, independent youth centres. Pogo was a must.

The KLF – Justified And Ancient

I agree with Bonaparte’s opinion on this. (Link) I totally missed KLF as well. In retrospect I think I didn’t miss much. Even though I have to admit that there was a short period in which I thought Dancefloor music is really great. But my heroes were rather 2 Unlimited, Real to Real, Ace of Base, TLC etc. pp.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Hysteric

This is the first time I listen to Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Right now this melancholic kind of music seems to be around very often. Even though I like this piece. You can dive into it in a wonderful way, especially, when things are not perfectly well in your private life…

MGMT – Time To Pretend

I don’t know anything about MGMT. The squeaking sounds at the beginning remind me of the song that was played when the Flashmob reached us at the Fusion. Apart from that, this music doesn’t mean much to me. But the video is definitely freaked out. This is some serious Hippie stress.

Golden Boy & Miss Kittin – Rippin Kittin

Well, Miss Kittin… I have to admit that I was never a fan of her music, and I haven’t changed my opinion to this day. I can more or less cope with the vocals, but then the siren is coming… Brrrrr – I like to play kitschy music myself from time to time, but this song is not for me.

Kissogram vs. Woody – If I Had Known This Before

There is not much to say about this: it’s a CLASSIC!! This used to be one of my favourite pieces for a long time, and I still like this track. It was also one of my first techno records, I bought the vinyl back then. It revokes memories.

Transform – Transformation (Tobi Neumann Matthew Styles mix)

The next dance hit. It is a marvellous piece, and it is still one of my favourites. I haven’t been listening to it for while, right now it is playing in the background, and it gives me gooseflesh. This sound definitely gets me on the dance floor.

Misstress Barbara – Dance Me To The End Of Love (H.O.S.H. Remix)

Either this is a coincidence or somebody did some research here. Yes, I used to play this track for a while when it was released last year. Back then it was Kitsch just the way I like it. But in the meantime, the track has gotten too cheesy for me.
