Listening to music with Kollektiv Turmstrasse

With no doubt Kollektiv Turmstrasse is one of the most original and versatile acts in electronic music. Their melancholic and dreamily productions have nothing in common with conventional techno music. In November, the duo will release their much expected debut album.

We talked to Kollektiv Turmstrasse about songs and music by Brothers Johnson, Arcade Fire, Sigur Rós, Franz Schubert, Gustav Mahler and Nicolas Jaar.

BROTHERS JOHNSON-STOMP

As far as we know Brothers Johnson were produced by Quincy Jones. This is definitely a funk classic from the 80ies; we haven’t been listening to it for a long time. It’s great.

The Suburbs – Arcade Fire

Great Band, their first album is brilliant! This one is from the new album. We didn’t know it so far, but we like the song. The video seems to have been done by a fan. It looks nice with these 8mm optics.

Sigur Rós – Glósóli

We are great fans of Sigur Rós, their music is so heartbreaking. Everything sounds so wide and dreamy. We would like to recommend the DVD of the band; you will never forget the picture language and the sound. This is an impressive example for the great sound that is coming from small Iceland.

Gustav Mahler – Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen – Kožená / Abbado

In German culture he is one of the major composers of the late Romanticism. This is some heavy stuff, but when you get into it, it is wonderful. His most famous work is probably is the Fifth Symphony.

Franz Schubert – Ständchen (Serenade) Liszt

Gorgeous. Somehow, Liszt and Horowitz belong to each other.

Nicolas Jaar -El Bandido

You hear a lot about Nicolas Jaar these days. The sound is really great. It reminds us of these Sundays with sunshine, friends and music. It’s great.

Kollektiv Turmstrasse – Tristesse

There is story connected to this video. This video was one of the first of us on YouTube.

One morning, there was an email in our inbox. Somebody told us that he is a great fan of “Tristesse”, and that’s why he did a small music video. When we watched it, we just couldn’t believe it. For the first time we realized that we had inspire people. This little piece of music has initiated and activated something in somebody else. That was a great moment. We can only say “Thank you” for that.
