Apparat Band
Yesterday evening I went to a bar with friends taking seat at a table with other people who were about to discuss the ticket prices of the Berlin Festival. They said they would really like to go but thought it was too expensive. We then tried to convince them (and ourselves) why this year’s Berlin Festival is worth going. Guess what, I think we made it. The line up is simply too good. More about the bands and how to win tickets after the jump:
After Frank has introduced you his favourite acts I tell you mine, a few out of numerous though, i.e.
Austra
Young, gay, beautiful, mystical – Austra is more than just a band doing dark and atmospheric music. Austra, the band around Katie Stelmanis is one of this year’s coolest acts, their debut album Feel it Break being released on Domino Records this year. In case you have missed their recent gig at Berghain, you should definetely visit the main stage on Friday to listen to that voice of nymph-like Katie Stelmanis and the other sirens of the band.
Apparat
If you’re into electronic music you have heard of Apparat aka Sascha Ring who, in cooperation with Modeselektor, also stands behind Moderat. On the festival’s Friday he is playing with Apparat Band and it is also in September when his new album The Devil’s Walk is released on Mute . You can check out the single Ash / Black Veil on Soundcloud, that has had more than 100.000 plays so far.
Beirut
In 2006, 19-year-old Zach Condon a.k.a. Beirut released the timeless album Gulag Orkestar. In his bedroom, he brought an entire Balkan orchestra to life boasting violins, ukuleles, mandolins, glockenspiel, clarinets and accordion. Beirut is about to release his third album in 2011 and plays on Saturday on the main stage. Balkan Beats, yeeehah!
Suede
What is it about these bands that reunite for a few gigs? Are we trying to get back that 90s Britpop melancholia? It is definetely going to work with Suede, the pioneers of Britpop who are playing on Saturday on the main stage!
I could continue with Public Enemy and The Drums and and and but you guys go and have a look yourself. Apart from the three stages on the festival ground the festival ticket includes the Club XBerg at Arena / Glashaus hosting most of the electronic acts such as Boysnoize, Headman, Discodromo, Hell and many more as well as entry to the Clubnacht featuring more than 60 Berlin clubs!
