Subway: Bruce Davidson’s Exhibition at C|O Berlin

Subway: Bruce Davidson’s Exhibition at C|O Berlin

photos: Bruce Davidson

Taking the subway in Berlin can be quite annoying, especially during Spring and Summer: The wagons are overcrowded, they smell funny, and additionally there are musicians that bother us with just another version of the „Godfather“ theme.

The American photographer Bruce Davidson spent too much time on subway as well. But in to contrast to us, he seemed to have done something useful out of it: Bruce Davidson took pictures, he portrayed the people on the subway. His pictures show the whole range of what you find on the New York subway: uniformity and diversity, anonymity and intimacy, depression and inspiration. This way, these subway pictures become a metaphor for life in the metropolis. Bruce Davidson’s pictures are featured in an exhibition at C|O Berlin, the show is running until 20 May 2012. Cinéma de Mode: Tradition

Cinéma de Mode: Tradition

photo: Thomas Dachs

In this week’s edition of the Cinéma de Mode we have a label from Leipzig. Howitzweissbach is one of the 10 German labels that are part of our Designer Scouts export program for the Fashion & Art Toronto Festival. They just released a video of their guerilla presentation of their collection video at Paris Fashion Week. They took a portable projection screen, posted themselves in front of the major fashion shows and showed their film. This way the fashion people had some entertainment while waiting in line for the next runway show. Clever! Enjoy the little documentary film about this, as well as the actual fashion film shot by Thomas Dachs for their collection Tradition after the jump.

The Louis Vuitton Classic Serenissima Run in Monaco

The Louis Vuitton Classic Serenissima Run in Monaco

My trip to Monte Carlo to the Louis Vuitton Classic Serenissima Run was in a way a time travel in two directions. On the one hand the beautiful oldtimer cars that took part in this prestige race from Monaco to Venice transported me back into the past when car design was not a slave to aerodynamics and efficiency. On the other hand the drivers of the cars, mostly mature gentlemen and their wives, gave me a vision of a future – an age where priorities shift from coolness and sex appeal to elegance and class. But my visit to the French Riviera had more in store for me than that. Read more about an amazing experience after the jump.

Woodkid at the Electronic Beats Festival in Prague

Woodkid at the Electronic Beats Festival in Prague

Next week I am going on a blogger trip to Prague. The guys from Mit Vergnügen were so kind to invite us along with fellow bloggers from Travelettes, LaJessie, Amy&Pink, This Is Jane Wayne and a few more to visit the Electronic Beats festival on May 5th, with concerts of The Whites Boy Alive, Grimes and Woodkid, as well as a DJ set from Mike Skinner from The Streets. I am especially excited to see Woodkid again, his concert at Festsaal Kreuzberg a while ago was amazing and I’m psyched to hear the new songs from his upcoming debut album The Golden Age. The details about the festival after the jump.

Open Studios at Funkhaus

Open Studios at Funkhaus

Last week I went on a little trip to the former GDR Funkhaus at Nalepastraße with Claudio and Gina. We wanted to take a look at this amazing location and also check out the opening of the group show Broadcast. Our visit turned out to be a trip through art wonderland. In addition to the group exhibition there was also an open studio night at many of the small artist studios that are now inside the Funkhaus (many empty rooms can still be rented for cheap). There was a great creative energy in the air in the hallways of the old broadcast building. With all the musician and artist studios this almost felt like a big creative commune. Have a look after the jump at our impressions, this time in the form of Instagrams.

Listening to music with Dapayk & Padberg

Listening to music with Dapayk & Padberg

When models turn into musicians, the outcome is rather horrible in most cases. Eva Padberg is different. For more than six years she has been performing together with her husband Dapayk. In 2008, the Noze remix of their song Island became a huge hit. Just recently Dapayk & Padberg released their third album Sweet Nothings on Stil vor Talent.

In our interview with Dapayk & Padberg, we asked them about music by Michel Teló, The Black Keys, Serge Gainsbourg and Frivolous. More after the jump.

90 Annoying Minutes with Marilyn

90 Annoying Minutes with Marilyn

As I mentioned two weeks ago: I have been looking forward to seeing My Week with Marilyn since I heard about the project it in fall 2010. So of course I went and watched it right away when it was released last week. Unfortunately it wasn’t quite what I had expected. My review of the film, as well as some more film recommendations after the jump.
